Hello All!! I decided to do a little lake fishing this morning. So I went south to Lake Ballinger. It was a very nice spring morning finally and I caught 2 nice rainbows. Both were caught using the tried and true, nightcrawler and a white marshmallow. The pics aren't very good, but I'll try to do a little better in the future. The fish with the rope in his mouth(forgot my stringer) was just shy of 2 1/2 lbs and the other one was a healthy 3 lb fish. They've been eating well and the meat is very firm and bright orange. Yum! I didn't take a water temp, but it is very cold.

That is a beautiful hen! Congratulations! Like you said, steelhead have got to be the perfect fish to catch, with their fighting ability, looks and the eating part is exceptional. I love fishing when it's snowing like that. Thanks for the pic and the video. Now I've got the itch. Thanks again.

Yes you will. If you see a little blue Walker Bay dingy trolling around, that will be me. See ya then.

Thanks I'll do that. I've not fished either lake before, but planned on fishing Samish in the very near future. I'm glad that I found out about this before I actually got there. I've never even heard or have seen anyone mention this before.

Has you have heard.. Lake Whatcom opens the 3rd Saturday of April and Samish is open all year round.. both lakes require permits from the city of Bellingham .. they are 60 without taking their aqua course on line then it is 50.. I do fish both quite a bit.. see ya out there... jeep

Hey Jeep, I did not know anything about a permit from the city. What exactly is that for, other than to relieve me of more money that the state didn't already relieve me of?

That is about the most beautiful fish I think I've seen. I would really like to be able to catch something like that. Now I'm going to have to start figuring out the closest places for me to try catching one. Bucket list addition for sure. Congratulations! Awesome fish!

That is a nice steelhead, Maniac! Sure looks yummy. They are one of my favorite fish to eat. And catch, but haven't had the pleasure this year. Congratulations

Nice of ya to lend'em your net!

Maybe the Warden was sitting in his truck with the high-powered Binoculars aimed your way or flying drones overhead?

They've been deploying those nasty varmints in my neck of the woods as of late. Sneaky peckerwoods! Except for the one. Oh my, is she a looker! But I hear that she can be hell on a man in her private life. There for a while, I could've sworn she had a tracking device on my rig. Everywhere I'd go, bam! there she'd be. Fish the river early, early morning, there she is. Fish out in the bay 60 miles from home and come back to the boat launch and BAM! there she is. I swear she was following me.
