Very nice catch there my man!
In my opinion, it's the best fisherie in the world. You should put it on your bucket list.

I'll be honest with everyone... I have NO RECOLLECTION of EVER catching a Bass, of ANY size (or species) IN Cleveland, Ohio... Now, if I were to drive 35 or so miles SE; there's a State Park, called Punderson. I've caught bass there, years ago; but, nothing approaching "a record breaker"!
¡That's a nice FISH, right there; maddog10e!
And here is a better one!

I heard (did not see) that a 16 pounder was taken out of the backwater at Horn Pond in Woburn. Hasn't been documented yet in Mass.gov site.

Can you catch large mouth bass like this in Cleveland??? They sit at the bottom in amongst the lilypads and wait like assassins to strike at their next meal. There are fish in those lakes in Halifax, MA that are twice that size.

Almost forgot - Peter's Pond in Sandwich is overstocked with 4 different species of trout. All up and down the coast of Massachusetts is slamming with stripers. Chunk mack and sand eels work great. Two hours before to two hours after high tide are the best times for surfcasting.

For freshwater, go to Little Pond or Long Pond in Plymouth. Go further south, Mashpee-Wakeby lake in Mashpee. East and West Lake in Halifax is large mouth bass heaven.

Don't try to muscle the fish in - the fish will win. When the fish wants to run, let him run and slowly increase your drag. When you get him to turn, let your rod do the work - bring your rod up, and reel down, bring your rod up, reel down. A little trick to get tuna to turn is pump your rod, but keep your line taut - fish hate that jerking motion, so they turn. Good luck!

Nice fish MD, sounds like the ticket. How were you fishing it?

I used a Texas rig with an extra large shiner doing all the work. There are fish in that lake that are twice the size, and if you happen to get lucky enough to hook one up, you better have 30 lb. braid. I swear by PowerPro.

[quote=OldBassGuy]I have lost quite a few fish, some large after solid hook ups. Fight them for some nice runs and then they go into the weeds and I end up losing them. Any tricks from you pros out there to get them out. I mainly fish with 6-8 lb test and afraid to force them out. I have tried to open the spool and hopefully let them swim out, no luck.

I know if I switch to braid, my success would go up but would have fewer hook ups.

So please, send me an answer.

I spend the extra $$$ and get 30 lb. PowerPro braid. It has the same diameter as 8 lb. mono, and I get plenty of hookups. I caught that big boy all wrapped up in lilypads. 7lbs., 4 Oz of large mouth bass and probably 20 lbs. of lilypads!

Catching keepers at the mouth on Plum Island and half way down the beach where the sandbar is 2 hrs. before to 2 hrs. after high tide. Sand eels and small mack.
