I am going on a 1 day charter in a couple weeks out of San Diego. I've never been out to sea and I've mostly just stuck to shore and lakes. I'm mostly using my uncle's gear and I personally have 2 rigs. Both have 50 pound braid with one having a 25 lb fluoro leader while the other has 40 lb mono leader. I know to take dramamine, wear sunscreen and a hat, and stuff like that but I'm just wondering if you guys have any tips that you wish you knew.
thanks!

Set your drag to 1/3 the breaking point of the line and do what the mate tells you to do.!
You are in for an experience if you get into some fish, especially bluefin. If you do feel seasick, go to the bow as it gets you away from any diesel fumes. Like Big dog said, listen to the deckhands. And you have to work with the other fishermen when hooked up as it can get chaotic when the bite is on. Good luck and get some tuna in the freezer

Trans-derm-scope (patch behind ur ear). That’ll keep the sea sickness away. By prescription only though.
A lot of seasickness is caused from looking down, like at the deck. Look out at the horizon as much as you can and it will help.
I always fill my stomach with food before a tuna trip and keep it busy by snacking. Make sure you have a crotch pole butt holder with a back harness that clips to your reel which should be lined with 50 pound mono. Tuna are all muscle and if you get a big angry one he will take you behind the woodshed. Tight lines and have fun.
I recommend spooling on 50-100 ft of 50# mono on top of your braid as a shock leader. Connect a 4 ft floro leader, then your hook. You need stretch while fighting your fish. Do the same with your light outfit. Just got back from a 2 day on the Vagabond. Limits all around, fish from 25 to 185#s. Good fishing!
Don't try to muscle the fish in - the fish will win. When the fish wants to run, let him run and slowly increase your drag. When you get him to turn, let your rod do the work - bring your rod up, and reel down, bring your rod up, reel down. A little trick to get tuna to turn is pump your rod, but keep your line taut - fish hate that jerking motion, so they turn. Good luck!
Take pills day before trip! Or get patch from your Doctor and put on day before. If charter trip use their gear they know their shit and reels usually have different colors lines since foul ups need to be fixed quick. First fish lost can be the last one as the school can run with it but will stay at the boat as you pull them in. Do what captain and mates tell you and don't get too excited just let them run the number of seconds your to!d then clamp down the drag. Watch others on boat when your fish gets near and starts the tuna dance. Good YouTube videos Westport WA charters where I fish. LUCK home canned Tuna is the best you've ever going to eat!

Start the motion sickness pills the night before at bedtime, then again in the morning. If they make you drowsy and you tolerate the “energy” drinks, have one for the morning to sip away at to ward off the drowsiness.Coffee works too, but for some it can make the queasiness worse.
100% no sea sickness formula.
Take a dramamine the night before and next morning.
Patch behind the ear when you wake up.
Eat 1 1/2 plain bagel with nothing on it for breakfast.
Snort as many lines of cocaine as possible in the parking lot.
When I got older I dropped the cocaine part and it still worked. Never been sick and one trip had 12ft seas.
