Any good scents to apply to plastic jigs for crappie? What are your favorites?

SoCal covers a lot of area be more specific. I live in the San Diego area and I quit fishing the lakes because they are over fished and have to pay to launch and pay to fish and hardly catch anything. I started fishing San Diego bay and doesn’t cost a cent and I catch and release, I wouldn’t eat fish from there. Never been skunked in 10 years fishing there. Best day for 2 of us was 176 fish mostly spotted bay bass. Worst day alone was 9 fish. My one fishing friend will eat the halibut. I launch at Pepper park and fish south of the Coronado bridge. If you are in the San Diego area PM and I can give you more on how to fish the bay. Larry W.

Ditto to those remarks! I live in San Diego also. The lakes are dead because of years of drought. The bay and piers are where the action is.
For me personally, freshwater: Walleyes Saltwater: Haddock.

Thoughts on telescopic rods?
Everyone I ever had broke rather quickly!
So much so that the local paper hasn't had a outdoor column in over 15 years, only charter boat catch results.
Oh yeah, the fees haven’t gone away!
Except for local Ocean boat charter, fishing and hunting in this area sucks big time. The county and state gave up on what was a promising future and investment in city lakes, then they just gave it up, and it has degenerated ever since. Some lakes don't even have a concession to buy bait at. That's the unvarnished truth. Also, drought and wildfires have decimated the deer and small game habitat.
My wife pushes me out the door to go fishing, but after 51 years what else is new! She's a great hunting and fishing widow!
Freshwater Walleyed Pike Saltwater Rockfish
In surf fishing we can sometimes use fishing weights close to 2 to 4 or more ounces. These cast off a long rod can reach velocities and energy levels that could easily kill a person if hit in the head. Really think about the possible consequences of losing your cool. You could lose everything, including your freedom.
The advantage of rod length in surfcasting as far as bait fishing is keeping the line above the wave line.
Casting lures from the bank as an alternative to bait and wait. You can never have too many rods.
If fishing something like the surf, rig it Carolina style with a 2-3 foot clear leader with a swivel.
