You should be able to catch some sheepies in later March/April from shore.

I heard they have pretty big ones down there in late April all around the gulf piers. I would also like to get out to some of the islands farther south n hit the Atlantic side for some big sea fish

alwas wanted to go there

found a nice campground on the gulf side called Kings Camp. I would recommend it if you go. it's only a 5hr drive from my home, I will be back there come spring but hopefully able to rent a boat for a couple days next time.

I'm going to be in north miami area on the 30th and will have the evening free to toss a line off a pier or beach. Any suggestions on location or bait for this time of year? I'm running medium saltwater poles with 40pnd braid and don't really care what I catch but prefer food to take home for my smoker :). Also willing to pay for bait n a beer if anybody in that area wants to hang out n show a Tampa area fisher how it's done down south.

I have to call BS on the slime treatment. Google it! There is not anything about it that is healthy or good for you. Over the years I've tried all of fixes. The best is Hydrogen Peroxide and hot water. The picture is a recent encounter and the treatment was Hydrogen Peroxide on scene and hot water at home an hour later. The pain was gone in minutes after the hot water.

ouch that looks painful, and I must admit peroxide n hot water sound much more pleasant than fish slime lol.

Nobody likes a Hardhead, especially me. You do know if you get stuck wipe the slime on your wound and it stops the pain. It works here in the Gulf.πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Thanx Hack, hopefully I won't ever need that info but good to know. I learned my lesson on their spines when I first got here less painfully, had one stick clean through my white water "puncture resistant" inflatable kayak. Did not make me a happy camper that day but learned a valuable lesson.

Look up a chile fried catfish recipe. You cook chile peppers into oil or batter and you will want to eat them more than salmon and halibut.

that's alright, any fish that requires work to cover the flavor (cat n bass) usually ain't for me lol. I used to be a salmon n lk trout addict in the N.W. but now in Florida I'm hooked on snook and sheepshead with a few varients of snapper thrown in :). More than happy to point people were to catch the slimy buggers if that floats their pallet better ;).

?????? Why aren't they good eating????? Are they not the same as channel cats.

people def eat them and I think they are pretty much the same thing. I just personally have never enjoyed the flavor of catfish. I've tried freshwater and salt, I'm sure there is a different taste but I was not impressed with either flavor, both fried.

Welcome to the Forum, greentime. The birds won't even eat them here in So. TX. I know of some people that will eat them, one time.

thanx flyguy. ya, def never my target fish lol but at least they put up a decent fight when the bites are slow on the snapper and sheepshead I usually throw for their.:).

been there done that, much crappy. I have less issue now that since I switched to 40pound braided, might be worth looking into if your still using mono for your main line. I've also found paying more attention to my knots helps for me :).

pay to fish ponds are Great for kids but personally I would find a spot that you have already paid for with your fishing license. that's assuming you have one, otherwise pay to fish places are good for not needing a license in most states I've fished in.

post from the beginning to end was about saltwater fishing and at least I clearly understood what type of "trout" he was referring to regardless of terminology but it's easy to see how you got confused. Either way, more respectful questioning of his statement and less insulting of a person will usually produce better communication results, no matter how thick someone's skin might be ;).
