I’ve either sprained my left thumb or developed arthritis in it.

I'm in Texas. I carry mine in my wallet. I also have a picture of it on my phone as a backup. I'm not sure the picture is a legal substitute but might keep me out of trouble if I forgot my wallet.

I leave my wallet in the car but do have a photograph of both my drivers license and fishing license on my phone. Even our MVA is encouraging new drivers to feel a photo of their drivers license on their phone because so many teens lose their licenses but never the phone.

I only know of a few lakes around here where you can just go fish. Most you have to at least pay a day use fee to park your car or a fee to launch your boat. Once that's paid, you're under no obligation to fish, but you can if you want to and if you have a valid license.

Now I didn’t expect to read that. I’ve never paid a dime to fish at any lake or pond.

I’ve never been to a place where you have to pay to fish but I recently discovered that there is a place about 50 miles from my house where you pay $15 to fish all day. The predominant fish seems to be catfish and the place attracts the typical catfish crowd.

What do you guys think of these places?

My grand daughter was home for the holidays and wanted to go fishing. Last Wednesday we found weather and time in agrement and went to the neighbor's pond. In about 45 minutes we caught 5 bass and had a lot more strikes. No records for sure but they were eager. The pond is overstocked so we kept them all for a fish dinner. The fish are small for their age and have no fat. The population of bass is too high and they are having trouble finding enough food. We will continue helping reduce the problem.

I collect old reels and some lures as well.
All the rods and reels should work ok. Or as ok as they can.
Obviously replace line.
Wooden lures , eh ... you can certainly use them but they might have collector value. If it were me , I’d get em looked at by a knowledgeable collector. Anything that looks modern, sure go ahead and use it.
Might not hurt to have the reels looked at as well, however 50-60s reels tend to not be worth a lot . There are various sites that have collector values for specific reels. E bay too never know. Might be a BF Meek or Winchester in there that your grandpa got from his dad.

My fascination with the evolution of fishing gear is what got me collecting
Most of my stuff has little value. But the story and history are interesting.

Primitive to high tech in the span of a generation.

Kicking around the idea of rigging up an antique and fishing with it someday.

Good luck sorting all that out. Sounds like you have a nice collection

“Replace the line”. Good advice but check this out. In my late teens I started fishing steadily using two closed faced Zebco rod. I think I caught half the small mouth in the Potomac. Then Vietnam came calling and closely followed by marriage so I dint fish for thirty years. I eventually bought a Jon boat and everything that goes with it. There were days that I stayed out on the upper Potomac for twelve hours using the same two rods. There were so many small mouth during that time that it became almost automatic. Troll for three minutes, fish on, while dealing with one fish the other rod was hopping. Anyway I hurt my back and couldn’t handle the boat and trailer so a neighbor inherited the boat. In the spring of 2020 I said what they’ll and started pond and lake fishing from the bank. After using Google Earth I never realized that there was so much water in my county.

Object of this screed? After fifty years I’m still using the same rod and reels without a hint of trouble.
