I’m thinking about buying some of the z-man soft jerkbaits , the 7” length . Plan is to Texas rig them with no weight and work them over grass. I’ve never used the z- man plastic , I just know I’m not supposed to mix it with other plastic baits . Anybody have any opinions on these baits ? Thanks in advance…..My 2cents…

I don't like it when "pleasure boaters" come flying by me, throwing a 3ft wake, when I'm working the bank in my little tin boat.
The lake is a half mile wide, and you have pass by, 25 feet from me??????

Yeah Fred. That’s happened to me a few times when I was in my kayak . Those intellectual giants need a new hobby . My sister sent me an article about 2 young guys in a boat smashed up on rattlesnake island ( at rayburn ) this morning . Both got hurt , 1 was hurt bad. People just don’t look or don’t care .

There’s always somebody that does or says something you don’t like , right ? So, since we gotta keep it clean and not political here in main, let’s keep it about fishing. So , I don’t like it when:
A guy at the launch starts talking and “ yeah I missed an 8 pound “ or something to that affect. Reason I don’t like it is how do guys know it was an 8# or whatever if they don’t catch it / weigh it .? Especially when referencing freshwater bass. Knowing how much a bass weighs is difficult enough as it is once you catch it / get it out of the water / until you put a scale on it . So usually when somebody starts talking like that , I gotta go. Anybody got something they don’t like ?

Nice catching Chuck! I knew you'd find some big ones down there. It's only gonna get better buddy. Thanks for sharing.

What up Fred? Thanks. Yeah , Me and Andy usually get lucky and catch at least one good one per trip . Lots of times people hear all these reports this time of year like “ They are getting bit using a red trap “ or something like that . Usually they are talking about the kazillion buck bass that will basically bite a lot more than a trap. And a lot more than red. I believe that “ red bite “ got started decades ago because the crawfish bury them selves in the red clay that’s prevalent in our lakes and take on a red hue when they emerge . The absolute key at rayburn is finding the grass. You gotta have it to do well. In other news, my daughter / son in law bought a 21 ft. Skeeter / 250 motor yesterday . It’s gonna be fitted out and they pick it up next Tuesday . Power poles, garmin screens, and garmin video game 🫤. I hope to go drive it next week . I just hope they take it easy because rayburn is 4 ft low right now .

Outstanding report, Chuck! Thank you for posting. I'm guessing the bass were schooled up then?🎣🎣🎣

Thanks . We ran into 1 decent school. My son Andy caught 7 ( 6 bucks, 1 female) in around 10 minutes . I managed 4 bucks, no females and missed 3 ….The rest of the time I couldn’t really say they were schooling , but they were all over the place . I would guesstimate for every 1 female we caught , we caught over 5 males. Makes me wonder where do all the fish go after spawn ? Lol.

What is your water temperature down there?

H2O temp was running 65-67 degrees. I parked my boat in 8ft water in a cove (s) with a flat bottom, no grass , but right on the edge of the grass, it looked like a grass “wall “ on my screen . I would cast , swim over the grass, and would get the majority of the bites right at the edge of the wall. Andy got a few bites on a weightless fluke, but majority was the Kietech swing impact fats and Owner Flashy Swimmers 5/0 hook.

Fished rayburn the 5-7 . Here’s the report quick and dirty :
Lots of buck bass all 3 fishing days , total of 42 .
Several females including the 2 big ones I caught . 6#-2ounce ( me in white shirt ) and 8# - 7 ounce ( me in green shirt )
99% fish were caught in 3 - 6 ft water WITH GRASS .
99% fish were caught with Kietech Swing Impact Fat in / Flashy Swimmer hardware 5/0 hook.
Andy caught the bigger numbers ( 29) but I caught the bigger fish.
None of the females had spawned or even had red tails . I don’t believe they have started spawning yet. Maybe next week . Water was very warm….

Try 91% Isopropyl Alcohol, It drys quick and leaves no film. Costs about 50 Cents a pint more than 70% which will leave a film. 91% will not harm electronics if allowed to dry when the equipment is turned off. Learned that doing computer and computer system repair.
44 years worth! LOL Back when we had to clean disk and tape deck heads.
Don't ever buy 100% as 5 minutes after opening it will go to 91%.
It will suck the moisture out of the air. Save your money!

Thank you sir .will check that out .

Over the years my electronics screens have taken on more importance. I’ve noticed that these screens get wet / dirty , especially when making runs in the boat for distances and getting water spray like what happens at my home lakes. . Since I can’t run with my screen covers on , I hope to learn of a way that I can possibly keep in my boat storage . I’ve used windex / ammonia type stuff, and it removes most of the funky stuff, but I still have these weird looking spots . Since I don’t know if there’s some kind of coating on the glass on the screens , so I don’t want to get too aggressive if possible. Anybody got any good suggestions , would be greatly appreciated …..my 2cents…

Once I heard of it, I suspected it was going to be a problem. I am watching an Elite Series tournament on Lake Fork and the guys are catching many 8#+ LM bass as they are getting ready to spawn. They use their Forward Facing Sonar and cast only to the big fish they see on the screen, watch their lure, entice a bite and reel them in. It is not interesting to watch a guy watching a monitor to find fish! Last week the winner on Toledo Bend caught over 100#, today the leader is at 82# and his day just started. Best in the world? I am thinking just best with technology. There is a slot limit of 16-24” fish they can’t keep this week, but I feel that is not enough. This technology cannot be good for our fisheries, nor can promoting it be good for those who are not in position to spend the $20K plus price tag to rig themselves up with the equipment. Just my opinion, of course!

I agree100% . It’s a shame what’s happening . My daughter / son in law have it on one of their boats .I watched it work . It’s neat , but I declined to purchase it for my boat when my son Andy brought it up . He asked me what I thought about it and and I said I wasn’t interested. A friend of his has a boat that would probably retail for 90,000$$. He took Andy out on it and Andy watched it work also.his buddy used a spinning rod with a 6” fluke , and caught some . He also tried a suspending jerkbait , but zeroed with it . Andy later told me the same as Mr. OJdidit said. Video - game fishing . I totally agree . Personally I don’t think it should be allowed in any tournament , but those sponsors gotta make their money…….

Hello stagers,
I'm thinking of having a fishing journal to learn from my experiences while fishing .Weather conditions, Temperatures outside, times fished and of course fish caught.
Have any of you done something similar and could give me some advice.
I have a relatively funny name that I wish to call my fishing journal that may be Inappropriate to post here. It's not really all that bad just ornery, and since I unsubcribed too the Attic I wish to keep it out of there.
If you're curious as to its title shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to share it with you ☺️
I don't think the title will offend anyone, just make you laugh

Can’t say I’ve ever done something like that . I guess if I had a journal , it would be in my head , and would only pertain to remembering the times I’ve caught really big bass, exceptional catches, or really wild or scary events while I was on the water. And I can remember most of those right now like it was yesterday…my 2cents
