Fished the beach this morning with grandsons. Showing them the ropes..
Got my daughter and her fiancé surf fishing now. Grandson going with me for first lesson Monday. He has reeled in a 23 inch Corbina for me in July but he will fish his own pole now. 8 years old and going to fish with my reel and pole from when I was his age. He is 8. I am 69 now. Kencore 6 foot light weight and a Mitchell Garcia 308. I have many 300s and 308s I use to surf fish almost daily.
Yes and sandflea has been working too. Today only fish were caught on gulp camo 2 inch
One small one. Corbina, perch ,yellow fin croaker, halibut, rays, sharks.banjo fish, bonito all in surf. And sharks if you fish for them.
Just throw back everything. Except legal halibuts.
Caught 10 yellow fin croaker in big surf this morning. 5 on Fishbaits. Crazy how this bait looks and works.
We catch fish here. Just trying to figure the best pole and reel to use in the winter for halibut with calista lures. Love to fish in the surf with 7-6 ultra light pole and 4 lb test braid.
I am about 3 miles south of Los Angeles Airport. The SantaMonica Bay. So we are in what they call the South Bay. Lots of fish nearby.
Show picture of the Rebel Double Deep.
Have been using a bait caster lately and having tough time with a shorter 1 piece medium rod. I am used to spinning with light 7-6 or bigger rods and Mitchell 300-308 reels. Shorter stiffer rods are hard to get used to. Going to throw Lucky Craft into the surf tomorrow with a Cousins 10 foot light rod and Mitchell 300 with 20 pound braid for CA halibut.
I grew up with Mitchell 300 and 308. 70 now and fish them in the CA surf almost every day. Have a dozen of then. Some from when I was young. Buy them on EBAY for 25-50 dollars. Only spinning reels I own ..Have Shimano Penn Diawa but not spinning.
Missed one. Will take more down when I can.
