Jay, true it is a simple task. But with todays mind set of hurry up get it done by bosses to the techs after just being shown a procedure in a 8 hour course with an OJT of 1 1/2 days, many things were covered would have me concerned too.

There is no shut off from the pole to the house and one slip of a screw driver, fried Monkey. Just sayin: I would want a more experienced person or at the least a crew of 2 to do the job.

Do you guys realize how simple changing out the meter is???!! 8hrs of training is way more than enough I could teach a monkey to do it in an hour. Cut the tag, loosen the screw or flip the lever, remove the band, pull the meter, push new meter on, put the band back on, tighten it up or flip lever and finally install a new tag. I can do it in 5-10 min tops. That said if you don’t want one it’s your house do what you want.

I definitely know how easy and quick it is to pull a meter having done it 100's of times in my firefighting career.. seeing this guy with a Quickstep guide on the seat of his pickup didn't work for me...

" 2nd day on the job after his 8 hours of on the job training .."

Good going with your gut feeling. A job like that I would think there would be a supervisor / foreman to come along with a technician with only 8 hours of training under their belt.

Sometimes justt got to listen to that inner voice.

So as long as you want to pay $$90 a year just for sport it’s your choice. If you had Solar it is all good and bill goes to 12.50 a month no matter how much the KWH charges ever go UP to. All the smart meters do is send the information over cell or internet instead of having someone come out to premises on regular basis. I am sure some will add some bogus information on a website. Another disadvantage people have by not adding solar and wind to a grid-tie system is sooner or later power companies will fluctuate the cost per KWH according to peak load times. Fun fun fun. I have never regretted getting 30% Tax Credit ( cash in pocket or reduce cost of system ) and having the $250-300 a month bill become $12.50.

I been tinkering with electricity since diapers. Solar cell at about 5 yrs old. Been fascinated with machines and electronics ever since. Maybe dad’s input on how to avoid getting ZAPPED etc was good for my family and I.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences and expertise.. once that I found out that these Smart Meters have a tendency to get hot πŸ”₯ πŸ₯΅ and catch fire due to the plastics and internal components.. being a retired fire πŸ”₯ fighter, just that alone was enough to me... plus having an analog meter only shows what I have used versus every time I turn on or off any and all of the electronics in my house 🏠 πŸ™ƒ.. I imagine that some industrious individual will figure out a way to hack these things and will figure out when our house is empty πŸ€” πŸ˜…
