Clear creek in Golden is easy to fish but it’s got a lot of activity from kayaker’s and tourists. The Blue River below the dam in Silverthorne is another easy spot to access. Just other fishermen there.

What about their fins?

Find on hatchery trout tend to be torn / beat up

Usually by their fins but in NJ it’s easy - they don’t stock browns

Great that you are having success on the trout. Kind of odd regarding the jumps...in my experience it is the opposite. Browns staying under and running around...while the rainbows quite often go airborne!

Oh well...I'm not sure what either case means anyways...just cool that you are catching fish and enjoying the experience!

My prior experience was with the bows jumping too. Wonder what’s changed.

I’ve caught maybe a half dozen or so wild brown trout this spring and probably 100 stocked rainbows. Same river, same flys. Ever one of the browns was a jumper. Only one of the bows was. Does this match the experience of others?

One picture attached since I know everyone likes them.

mono backing, 30# braid, 6' 30# fluoro leader. this will easily catch 120# fish.

Why use mono backing vs. putting the braid directly on the reel?

This gives insight into the old saying “big fish(boat) in a small pond”

Meaning no disrespect F4F, but I tinks the 3rd pic is a shell cracker! Great day on the water !

Could be. I’m far from an expert on different fishes. I looked up shell cracker, never heard of them before. Hard to tell for sure.

OK. Went out again today just to get you guys some pics- one of each type caught except for the Creek chub. Caught 14 rainbow, 4 small mouth, 2 blue fill & 1 crappie. Had to fish in two spots today vs. only one yesterday.

Same spot in the river; same two flies. First fish a pumpkin seed sunfish. Next 5 fish small mouth bass. Next 14 fish rainbows. I’ve never had them line up like that before.

A good 1st outing-a couple of hours on the South Branch. 4 rainbows ( all hatchery fish about 12”), 2 wild brown trout and 2 wild small mouth all around 10” plus 5 (3 bows & 2 browns) that got themselves off. Didn’t bother with pics of the little guys.
