Yes they are. There is a Mexican restaurant near the house that serves up a pan friend Tilapia, complete with a head and eyes. When you are finished eating it, it looks like one of those cartoon fish skeletons that Top Cat used to dig out of the garbage can, but it is very good. Bluegill cooked like that would be even better.
I keep just enough for Marilyn and I to make a meal. I like Fish & Chips so fresh fried fish, especially if I was able to catch enough for a meal makes it even better. Take care.

Thanks for the info Fire. That's interesting. I've been catching big ones like that in the Connecticut river in the section between Hinsdale and Brattleboro. Attached is a Bluegill I caught last fall with my hand as a guide. That was maybe the biggest one I've ever caught - definitely the biggest I've caught in the Connecticut. Have you noticed that they always look bigger on the hook rather than when you pull them out of the ice chest? Enjoy the summer.
Harry
That's a very nice Bluegill. Where did you catch him? I assume it was the Connecticut river. If so, what part?

I assume that is the Connecticut river. If so, where?
Dat's what I'm talking about.
That's a nice fish; I don't care who you are.
I'm hoping to go out in the next few days. For most species, we are in the "catch and immediate release only" period. That basically goes until the spawn is over which is around June 15th. But, crappie, perch, and sunfish are excluded from the immediate release restrictions.
What the guy in the video did was carefully cut the meat along both sides of the "Y" bone the full length of the fish so that you end up with 2 long fillets per fish, and then fry them up. Is that what you are talking about?
You know, I saw a youtube video of come redneck guy from South Carolina who was showing the viewers how to fillet Pickerel. According to the guy, pickerel fillets are very firm, and taste really good fried. I haven't personally tried it, but being from Louisiana, I've eaten some stuff most normal people would turn down so I'm willing to give them a try. The problem is that I haven't caught any since I saw that video. Come to think of it, I haven't caught any Northern Pike since I saw a video about to fillet them. They're supposed to be very tasty as well. I draw the line at Fresh water mussels. I tried them once and they sucked.
You know Fred, it's not the quantity, it's the quality. I have no idea what that means, but my grandfather always said that, and then he'd walk away.
OK! So I added a "Zero" by mistake. I stand corrected. The important thing is that the river is getting warmer, and that is the best part. If any/all of you guys could only be lucky enough to come up and experience summer fishing in New England, you'd all wanna be up here every year. Can I get an Amen Fred?
Have fun and let us know what you caught. I just cleaned out the boat and fired it up this morning, and the Connecticut river temp just hit 560 yesterday. It's time to go.
You are correct. But, it's just hard to give things up sometimes - do you know what I mean?
