I grew up in CT, but never thought I was raised by low income parents during a time when most everyone treated each other with respect. We didn't eat a lot of fast food because it was considered a treat, not a food group. We drank Kool-Aid made from water that came from our kitchen sink with real sugar. We ate bologna sandwiches, or even tuna (which was in a can not a pouch), PB&J & grilled cheese sandwiches, hot dogs, pot pies, but mostly homemade meals consisting of mainly meat, potatoes, vegetable, bread & butter, and homemade dessert.
We grew up during a time when we mowed lawns, pulled weeds, babysat, helped neighbors with chores to be able to earn our own money. We went outside a lot to play games, ride bikes, red rover, dodge ball, run with siblings, and friends & played hide and seek. We drank tap water from the water hose outside... bottled water was unheard of. If we had a coke -it was in a glass bottle ... and we took the empties back to the store for a 5 cent deposit.
We watched TV shows like Bonanza, Leave It To Beaver, Gilligan's Island, Happy Days, Bewitched, The Brady Bunch, Little House On The Prairie, and I Love Lucy. After school, we came home, and did homework, and chores before going outside or having friends over. We would ride our bikes for hours. We had to tell our parents where we were going, who we were going with, and what time we'd be back.
You LEARNED from your parents instead of disrespecting them, and treating them as if they knew absolutely nothing. What they said was LAW, and you did not question it, and you had better know it!!!
When the sun was starting to set you had better be home. In school we said the Pledge of Allegiance, we stood for the National Anthem, and listened to our teachers.
We watched what we said around our elders because we knew if we DISRESPECTED any grown-up we would get our behinds whooped, it wasn't called abuse, it was called discipline! We held doors, carried groceries, and gave up our seat for an older person without being asked. You didn't hear curse words on the radio in songs or TV, and if you cursed and got caught you had a bar of soap stuck in your mouth, and had to stand in the corner. “Please, Thank you, yes please no thank you yes ma'am no ma'am yes sir, and no sir were part of our daily vocabulary!
You grew up to respect the Nation, the flag, and the President, NO MATTER who it was or what party they were from.
Re-post if you're thankful for your childhood, and will never forget where you came from & the time you came from! ❤

About 8 to 10 years ago, at the Rotary Club of Houston, a senior member of the club was being considered for the “Man of the Year” award. This was usually not given to members of the club, but he was an exception.
He was honored for being selected and in his acceptance speech he made an usual comment. He said that it was an honor, but more than that, he wasn’t worried about any of his peers being able to refute anything he said. He said when you reach the age of 90 and above, you do not have to worry about anything you say being contradicted or refuted by anyone else.

Well, I have just begun to realize the merit of his statement. I will be 90 around Thanksgiving this year. My peers and classmates are dropping in twos and threes and there are very few of us left. So, putting my best foot forward, so to speak, I could elaborate, stretch the truth, and boast, or all of the above, if I chose to do so.
In one incident, I got into an argument, the most heated one I believe I’ve ever had. This was during my two weeks of active duty which I spent in Oklahoma City at Tinker AFB. There was a captain there and we had a ‘rip roaring’ argument about what the next conflict would be like.

His position would be there would be no more wars, or uprisings against the United States because we had the H bomb and no one would dare challenge us.

My position was, since we had the H bomb, no one would challenge that, but instead would challenge us in ‘hit and run’ guerrilla tactics, like those used to win our independence from England. I often wondered how he felt about Viet Nam! I did not have any secret or proprietary information, but just common sense said this was what third world countries would do to take advantage of our ‘blind spot’.

While I am quite opinionated, I try to avoid heated arguments because of the possibility of heart attacks, or similar surprises. I don’t think either of us felt we had won our debate at the time, but I’ll bet a beer he remembered my side of the argument later!

Now, I have held arguments with your wife until last! You cannot win, simply because wives never give up in verbal jousts with husbands. Be advised they will wear you down until you either die, or surrender! Just Sayin…RJS

Yeah, going out to breakfast WAS a nice way to get out in the community and just chill with the other locals. Was a big part of my social life, sad as that may seem. Inflation #'s out of the Labor Department are total fabrications, they must think we're all pretty stupid to try to sell this nonsense to us !

Most all of the early numbers we got on inflation, jobs and unemployment were changed later later in the month when the real numbers came out.

Here are some statistics for Biden’s three years according to Fox News. Definitely still have the immigration issue, but these numbers look good. IMO.

That’s until they readjust like they do every month. Their statistics leave a lot to be desired.

I cannot imagine how hard it was to get out of a warm bed in the morning knowing what the coming day would be like. Give you a lot of credit to stick to it and get it done. Hope you can sell that snow shovel this summer if you don’t mount it on the wall of your new home.

That all means nothing when you have open our borders to millions of people and we have no idea who they are. The man is senile and most of his people look like they came from the " Land of Misfit Toys ". He has turn our country into the laughing stock of the world. Ask a young family with a couple of kids, house payment, car payment etc. if they are better off today or four years ago. Don't take my word for it, half or more of America feels the same way.

Correct. Now if he goes to prison, as a convicted felon, that's a different story. IMO

What makes it different. Nothing says a felon cannot be president. Only 2 requirements to be president, natural born citizen and 35 years old. It does not say who cannot be president.

I just came in from the roof at 5:45. Another 3 hour stretch.
I did get ALL of the garage done. That's a little more than 1/4 of the total roof.
All the portion I shoveled yesterday and nearly 18 inches of new snow on it.
However, the wind has blown alot of the snow we've been gettin , off. So it's not as deep as everywhere else.
Mostly.
I did the walk and drive 1 last time before I quit for the night.
Put in 6 hours today and my back is kinda sore. Think I'll have a beer and some dinner and rest a bit.
Here are the latest pics of the roof.
