Forgot to mention that a lot of condos on the Laguna Madre side have lighted fishing docks which are nice. Ours does, it's Gallion Bay Condos.

Fly guy I used to go to South Padre when I lived in Houston. Traded a week of time share to stay in Gallion Bay Condos. They were great! I took my boat and docked it there in slips. I always went out with a guide the first day or so. Different fishing down there. I wad to learn how to do Corkscrew maneuver to get up in shallow water.
Always had a great time down there. Haven’t been in several years but planning a trip when I get my CHINA VIRUS vaccine.

Has anyone tried skinning them? That way, you would still get the meat
around the bones, which some say is more flavorful.

Gary when I was a kid I stayed at some cabins on Lake Buchanan Tx.
We caught hundreds of white bass (no limits back then Sixtys) and we skinned them. Would cut behind gills them shallow cuts down both sides. Pull of skin, pull out fins, then break off head. Did not take any longer than filet. We would bread then throw fish in big fry pot and serve when they floated. Seams to be out of style nowadays. I filet every thing now but may old school next cleaning session.

BP is out of stock with no estimated date on availability. I'd like to add another to my boat.

PapaJ try Bass Tank. They show same deals online. They are good guys. I got my new finder mount and livescope transducer cover from them. Hopefully their sale is still on.

Several companies have Garmin Echomap UHD 93 sv on sale now. BP and Bass Tank among others have them for $599 list is $1050. I just bought one from BP but haven’t added to boat yet. My Echomap Plus 93sv is good and I’m linking them together.

PapaJ you should try HybidStripers and white bass. I here Tawakoni is full of both. You can use your LiveScope to help catch um. I have been wanting to come over there. Maybe we can fish together. I’m going to fish for um here on Palestine when I finish putting all my new stuff on my boat. 🎣🎣🎣

Do pike stink? Being a Texan I have never caught one and now will never try. As far a slime a Gaffe Topsail Catfish will slime you up big time.

Like PapaJ I recently added live scope to my boat. We use them for crappie catching not fishing here in Texas and they are a game changer. However they do have a leaning curve. They are very educational by showing actual fish behavior and how fish reacts to your lure and presentation. The owner of Fishing Specialties where I bought my pole mount for transducer who lives in Colorado Springs said they use them for wallies up there. I think they work for all species.

ADD; there IS a right nice beach, just on the east side of the mouth of the Brazos River, that is called "Surfside", to the best of my recollection... Again; I can't clearly recall whether or not there's jetties on both sides of the mouth of the Brazos, or NOT; neither can I tell you, whether or not people fish off that beach anywhere... If they do, I'm supposing that it's a short ride to the east, as I DO recall people swimming right there, JUST east of the mouth of the river. Never made it all the way to the Gulf, on the west side of the Brazos, as I didn't really spend much time "at the hill", while in Texas, even though I had rented 1/2 of a duplex house, in Freeport, for 3 or 4 months. I prolly only slept there, for 6 to 10 nights or so, if that.
ADD; there IS a right nice beach, just on the east... (show quote)

The jetties at Freeport (south jetty) and at Surfside (north jetty) are on the mouth of the Freeport Ship Channel, not at the actual moth of the Brazos river that several miles south and does not have jetties.
The Surfside jetty is the best one. Fished it often when I lived in Houston.

I got what I thought was a great idea to get a small freezer and stock up when the virus hit. Needless to say Was late to the dance. Could not find one anywhere. Finally after several months my barber told me about “Her Guy” in a small town that was half way to PapaJs house. I ordered one and finally got it. Payed double but now I have room for all the fish I catch this year 🎣!

Between a c-note and a sawbuck. Reliability more important than price.

Does anybody have experience/recommendations for a good reliable fish scale to weigh my catches? I see several online but don't want to buy junk. Thanks

I’m shopping for one too. However the online reviews are not very encouraging. Even the name brands get negative reviews. Hopefully someone here has a recommendation on one.

PapaJ this is only my second winter here in East Texas (from Houston), but last year I fished all winter. My boat is in slip at Palestine marina and all I did was lower motor into the water if it was going to get below freezing. I had no problems. Of course I treat the gas and change oil on schedule. Actually I have stared using Ethanol Free gas. Boat runs like new (07 Suzuki 90)..

Legal in Texas with restrictions on size and number of hooks. Jugs must be marked and dated.

It's interesting the different game laws in each state...always pays to read up on the rules instead of being coached by a game warden.

PapaJ I have been jug lining on Palestine for years. Have caught hundreds and some really big ones (that I don’t keep anymore). If you are going to be crappie fishing and not watching them I suggest making your main line long enough to reach bottom and anchor them (I use short sections of rebar). I usually only use two hooks (3/0 or 4/0 circle hooks) per line.
I bait with cast net caught shad or perch (whole small ones or cut large ones). PM me for more info.
PS when you coming back to Palestine to fish with Mark (Three Nails) or with me.
PPS Man where really posting on crappie fishing fools the other day LOL 😆
