Old upright freezer making a funny noise and pretty sure it's dying. Too much good stuff in it to risk it so we bought a new one this afternoon. Hated to spend the money but would hate more to lose the steaks, fish, peaches, etc that we have in it.
I'll call the appliance guy tomorrow to see if the old one can be repaired for a reasonable price. If so, I'll keep it for lower value frozen foods.
"It's ALWAYS SOMETHING!" I was just happy to find one today in the small town in which we live.

Freezers are kind of like outboards on a boat. It is always a good idea to have a couple of them close by. I have four smaller ones so if one bites the dust I can move things around and be just fine until I can replace it. I have two outboards on my boat, a 115 Johnson and a 15 Johnson kicker, and a trolling motor.

There was only one left in our little town. Nothing nearby either. Craziness...but so thankful to have found this one.
I think it's my wife's fault. She said just yesterday that we need to do an inventory of the freezer. Well...moving to the new freezer certainly provided that opportunity!

She got her wish and you got reassurance on keeping your food safe. Win win.
Well, one negative of living on the Gulf Coast. The deep freeze I had on the first floor of our Tiki Island house was never seen again after Hurricane Ike! Just Sayin...RJS

I got what I thought was a great idea to get a small freezer and stock up when the virus hit. Needless to say Was late to the dance. Could not find one anywhere. Finally after several months my barber told me about “Her Guy” in a small town that was half way to PapaJs house. I ordered one and finally got it. Payed double but now I have room for all the fish I catch this year 🎣!
I think I have said this before, but a refresh is always good.
Quick hint for buying time with a freezer. Take duck tape and wrap it around the seal of the freezer when the power goes out or it dies. That will keep the warm air out and you have 4 days to get a new one or the power to come back on.
BTW if your food in the freezer starts to thaw start taking pictures of the meat, ect and call your Home Owner's Insurance Agent. That is covered under your Home Owner's or Renters Insurance. But the Duct tape can save you the grief of having to deal with the Agent.
I have a B Rider that covers the deductible on my home insurance. Very cheap monthly add on cost, but you need to know about it as they normally don't tell you about it. Saved me about $500 when I had to have my roof replaced, Hail Damage and leak.

Right there with ya Fly! We have 2 upright deep freezers, 1 chest freezer, plus 2 refrigerator freezers. What doesn't fit in the freezers gets canned. If the power goes out, I can fire up either gas, diesel, or nat gas generator.. I never considered myself a "prepper" type, but more on the self sufficient line.
