I bought this one online from Walmart last summer before I went to Cancun. I caught a bonefish in the surf right in front of our hotel with it, and I’ve used it in the ocean here from my kayak. I really like it, but it’s a bit too heavy for most freshwater. A lighter version would be ideal.

A while back I posted about a disaster I encountered while fishing with my BIL in which I inadvertently broke 2 rods with a launched anchor while slamming on the brakes to avoid a deer. Broke an old Fenwick HMG and newerSt. Croix. Contacted both companies and explained it was all my fault as the anchor wasn’t properly secured. St. Croix didn’t respond but Fenwick told me to send them a picture of the break, model# and a photo of the entire rod along with the original receipt if it was still in my possession. Unbelievably, I had the receipt from 2003 in my gun cabinet
and sent it all in via email. 3 days later I received a new rod free of charge and get this, an apology that they were temporarily out of stock on that particular HMG model and instead sent me an elite upgrade. They’ve got my business for life. Their rods aren’t particularly inexpensive but are great bangs for the buck and backed by one heck of a warranty. 20 years old, broken by a bonehead move and yet still honored. I was blown away.

Back in the 70’s I had my first Fenwick, a little 2-piece ultralight, that I broke at the ferrule while yanking at a rock I’d snagged. It was my fault it broke, but Fenwick sent me a new rod,in a cool tube that I used for decades, along with instructions to TWIST the rod as I’m assembling it. I still have that rod, along with more Fenwicks that I bought over the years because of the way they took care of me.

I’d forgotten all about the sounds of a cherry bomb or m80 dropped into the riverbed from the street above…always best from a bridge to get full effect!

Growing up in Los Angeles’s San Fernando Valley meant that the LA River was the water place to explore. Reseda to Burbank was my stretch, and although the “river” was mostly an inaccessible concrete channel with vertical sides that drained the million-strong population’s nasty street runoff, there were some sections in the Sepulveda flood control area and near Griffith Park that were sorta natural. Overgrown and off the beaten path, and probably creepy to some, they were magical to me. Frogs , small fish, turtles and the occasional garter snake to catch, dirt trails for bikes, lots of garbage to shoot BB guns at, and smelly sections covered in foot -deep foam to avoid. It was the perfect start to the next 50 years of water fun, since everything else is beautiful by comparison!

I found this today at WON’s website:
“ Updated September 30, 2022

BISHOP AREA — Crowds are light at Lake Sabrina, but the bite has been good for bigger rainbows to 6 pounds. The lake is jumping with fish. Inlets, worms dunked around the rock piles and …”

Good luck and post pics if you go

Welcome, Edseward.
Sorry I can't help you with Lake Washington fishing, but just wanted to chime in that I, (as a pretty conservative guy from conservative Central California) love Seattle!
I took my family there for a week a couple years ago, and we stayed by Lake Washington in Kirkland. Cool town and a beautiful lake.
It's 109 degrees here right now, and I can only wish I was in Seattle....

I never launched a boat. What's with opening the windows? Just so you don't get locked out?

I open the windows and keep my seat belt off just in case I roll into the lake. I make any kids in the truck do the same. I think I watch too many "Launch Ramp Fails" on YouTube....
I've also seen and been on swamped boats, so I always get out and check my drain plug one last time.

Good luck rent a boat the stocking up there has not been good because of the Hatcheries being closed down !!
But I would troll I've always done great at Gull by the play ground or rent a boat on Gull.
Also Grant lake fish early morning and in the evening because when the sun hits the lake on Grant the fish sun down and Silver lake use clear bubble with 3 foot leader line and a dry fly it works great.
Good luck and a safe trip
And if you have never been to Boodie the ghost 👻 town off 395 you should and the .hot springs.
Have fun with your family 👪
Safe trip

Haven't been to those lakes, (only the lakes and Backcountry above Bishop, and many here on the Western side), but what Andy said works for me, whether boat, kayak, or shore. If the above fails and you just want to kick back, then powerbait.

If you're going to June Lake, CA then Mick H posted a report on July 8 (in the Main section) about a great trip there.
Good luck, and post pics!

Can that be done here.??

Sorry, can't help, but I have the same question.

Can someone help me ? Does anyone remember when a FS member posted a article on salmon fishing out of Moss Landing Ca ? He posted a nice article & pics. I went back through the last couple of weeks but can’t find it. Thanks

Didn't see anything from a member, but Western Outdoor News had this dated July 4:
"MOSS LANDING — Salmon fishing takes top billing. Private boaters head out to Pajaro and Soquel Hole areas to find numerous giant bait balls with plenty of hungry salmon in the area. Limits are the rule most days."
Sounds fantastic!

I forgot to mention we target Kokanee at Shaver and Huntington and often end up catching trout too.
Cancun is great, but the humidity, tropical sun, and the wedding party we went to knocked me on my old ass. Hoping to get some more casts in tomorrow. 🌴

Welcome, Troutchaser. Another Bob here. I'm in Clovis and we enjoy trolling from my powerboat at Shaver and Huntington, although I've taken my tandem kayak up to Wishon, and even tiny Ward Lake up past Kaiser pass. Again, trolling for trout.
We also go to Millerton a lot, but mostly for tubing, and San Luis reservoir a few times per year for stripers. Right now I'm sick in bed in Cancun Mexico, but I did catch a bonefish yesterday off the beach in front of the hotel on a collapsible travel rod, so all is well!
I look forward to seeing your posts on the board.
