Hey Smitty,
Let’s keep Maine a secret.
It is the way life is supposed to be.
And the fishin’ is good too.

My solution to the age problem, just keep getting a lighter kayak. Martin in Maine
In my view, buy a 44 lb Old Town, I don’t regret it. Martin in Maine
Adrian, Maine and Minnesota have similar weather, And maybe similar wives. My wife won’t go with me either. Martin in Maine
FS, if they offer you a chance change jobs again, move to Maine. Great bass fishing, both Striped and LM/SM. Cumberland county / Freeport area is best because you’d be five minutes from Casco bay and 15 minutes From great fresh water fishing. And bring your kayak.Martin in Maine
FS, As I mentioned in my earlier post, I chose a smaller (10 foot/44 pound) kayak and do not regret it. I can manage it by myself, if I have to go into the woods to get to a pond/lake I use a strap-on set of kayak wheels. I make sure to keep mine pumped up so when I get to the lake it’s ready to go.As you can tell I am a minimalist so I only take 3 poles and tackle bag. The only thing I’m really missing is a more comfortable seat cushion. Martin in Maine.
FS, I think I know how you feel. I retired and moved to Maine to be near my family. I missed all my old fishing spots until I got my kayak. I got an Old Town 10 foot. Didn’t add much to it. The key for me was that it only weighed 44 pounds. I couldn’t lift anything heavier than that to get it up on the Thule rack on my car. Now I’m fishing 3 - 4 days a week, mostly LM/SM bass and pickerel. Lots of trout. The kayak gets me up into the skinny water, the fishing up in Maine is amazing. Because the kayak is only 10 feet I stick to small ponds and lakes. VERY important to Put my PFD on as soon as I get near the water. We have about 4,000 lakes and ponds in Maine, I am targeting one county a year. No hurry. Martin in Maine
Thanks

To SAW1, thanks for the list of spinners I’m heading over to L.L. Bean now, will see if they have them,. Thanks again, Martin in Maine
LM, Smallies, and stripers have been my thing. This year I’m going to try Flagstaff lake up by Sugarloaf for trout, some of the boys have told me that trout fishing up there is pretty good, so I got a try it out for myself. Anybody have any advice about using spinner baits for trout?? Martin in Maine
Hey Crankit47... Agree 100%, My OldTown 10 foot sit-in is perfect. I’m an old guy too and kayak weighs 44 pounds and I can easily get it up on roof rack and then throw it on a set of kayak wheels to drag it to some pretty good bass fishing spots hidden in the woods up here in Maine.
