my experience is that the reel is overloaded, rule of thumb, stop spooling with in an 1/8" from top, also you might be using inferior brands, have you tried berkley products, and what size line are you using? following reel instructions?what size is reel 25,30 ?????

i have been fishing all my life(83) now. catch and release actually works. it makes sure their will always be bass(lm&sm). does not stunt growth and helps the industry keep their jobs. helps promote fishing in a proper way, good for water ecology. bass are predators, if you remove the predators you will cause the ecology of the lake and river to change negatively. bait fish will multiply at a fast rate and soon the lake or river will die! i have seen rivers and lakes dead from human intervention. not ao pretty sight. death of lakes and rivers comes from pesticides and other human junk. some lakes and areas are becoming hard to access because people are misinformed about fishermen who practice catch and release. there are size limits in place to help control population and insure healthy growth

I'm very new to fishing and know nothing. I want to buy a rod and I'm wondering if the Daiwa Fishing Rod Sweepfire SW662MFS and the Pioneer Argonaut Aluminium 4000 Spinning Fishing Reel are good options. It's a two piece rod, medium action and in my budget. Is the reel also a good option, also budget friendly. Also, one last question. Which line should I use, I'm leaning towards monofilament.

i do not like 2piece rods they fall apart and separate at the wrong time. not familiar with reel. i use quantums
