Is this a good rod and reel combo?

I'm very new to fishing and know nothing. I want to buy a rod and I'm wondering if the Daiwa Fishing Rod Sweepfire SW662MFS and the Pioneer Argonaut Aluminium 4000 Spinning Fishing Reel are good options. It's a two piece rod, medium action and in my budget. Is the reel also a good option, also budget friendly. Also, one last question. Which line should I use, I'm leaning towards monofilament.

Im not sure about that combo, but i would highly recomend any of the okuma combos that are between $60 and $100. I got one about a year ago and I am impressed with it. It's smoother and more reliable then some of my $200 setups. I would also recommend a 6 to 8 lb fluorocarbon line. I've always had good luck with that.

It depends on your target fish.

When I first started back fishing after a 45 year hiatus, one of the first combos I purchased was a 13 Fishing Fate Neon combo from FishUSA for around $60. I now have a plethora of combos, most of which are much more expensive, but I find myself, more often than not, reaching for my original Fate Neon combo. It has always gotten the job done. I have it spooled with 8lb. mono. Be sure to set your drag correctly to give any bigger fish you may hook some play. You should be fine.

My Fate Neon hasn't in several years of fishing it (maybe it's just mine). I like two piece, easy to transport and never really have had a problem with any of them (but only have a few of them, most models don't offer two piece or, if they do, not in the action I am looking for). I do pay attention to ensure they are properly aligned and connected prior to using them, and unless I am taking them on vacation or etc. I usually don't take them apart. That probably makes a difference.

I really like two piece rods, as long as you buy a decent one. Most are very reliable and do not come apart. Your choice really depends on what your fishing for. Spinning reel and lightweight rod for smaller streams/ponds. Heavier as you look at bigger fish....

FS, Iv heard good things about the rod. Look at reviews on the reel that's what I do. I'm new as well. As far as line goes, what are you fishing for? Iv always heard if your just starting out mono is the way go.
