Where did you bag them?

I am headed to Bimini, Bahamas April 6 with two friends and son-in-law. Boating over from Fort Lauderdale in friend’s boat. On return we are going peacock bass fishing for an afternoon. I am not much of an off shore angler but enjoy the company and occasional catch. But, peacock bass have been on my bucket list for years.

I have been with a guide, and did well with speckled trout and puffers (puffers are very good to eat if cleaned properly).

If you take your boat out be very careful inshore since there are lots of rocks and - depending on tide - underwater and near underwater islands. I wouldn’t take my bay boat there.

There are several good guides available.

I think the best Bloody Mary in the world is at the Red Bar on 30-A along the Florida Gulf Coast.

Welcome aboard. I live on the north end of Wolf Bay, but rarely get over your way to fish (do come to the Tin Top often to eat; have they opened the new one yet?).

I just talked to a friend who lives on the river and he says they have had good luck catching reds and trout IN the river. Also, on the north shore of the bay, heading toward Weeks Bay, there are several deeper holes that hold trout. I fished that area with a guide once.

Speaking of guides, that might be a good place to start. For $350 - $400 you could get a first hand look at some good spots - some poor ones to I suppose.

Good luck.

In college we also drank Lancer’s and Mateus wine. One of them came in a cool clay bottle that we - the guys in Sigma Nu - thought looked cool and was romantic as a candle holder (perhaps add in an old, painted cable spindle table for added atmosphere👍😊✌️).

Time to go back and find the old classic (Hang Um High, Catch 22,Sound of Music, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, early Star Wars, etc). I don’t even know the names of most of today’s stars.

Drove up once. Not again. Taking the train if I go back.

Went in August and temps around 35 at top. Very interesting place.

Good looking dog.

We are about to have to put our 15 year old Yorkie down. Vet says he probably has a brain tumor. It will be tough.

My wife says no more pets, but I’m betting she gives in. I am hoping for an indoor/outdoor cat.

You know, I grew up on a farm and during the school year my dad had a rule that every Saturday morning we (me and my brother) had to work until lunch (that started when we were young). In the summer that rule applied most Saturday mornings (depended on how much we did during the week) and if we weren’t working on Saturdays we were most likely camping or fishing.

So, I don’t think I can name one Saturday show, much less hum the tune. But, if you didn’t have to build a fence or plant corn l guess it was good entertainment.

In 1967, when I was 18, I bought a NEW Mustang Sports Sprint for $2,840. It was top of the line, non fastback. In 1972 I was T-boned and the car totaled.

I turned 75 in June and gave myself a special gift (see pic). Same car I had in ‘67 except for color. Runs great and is fun to drive. The current one cost about 10 times as much as the one I bought in 1967. I get lots of looks and comments when I take her out.

Thanks for the tip.

I learned to bass fish with a Yellow Sally with a green frog. Went with my uncle one time about forty years ago and he used a Purple Sally and he beat me about two to one. Needless to say, I got a purple one. And, they are weedless, but I never tried one in Canada, but bet they would work well.

Thought I would comment on bait. I have had good luck with Johnson Silver and Gold spoons (they are weedless). It seems if they are biting gold you can leave the silver in your box and vise versa. I have good luck with almost any type spinner bait. I like to put Uncle Josh Frogs on the spinners, but haven’t been able to find any in the past four or five years. It is important to use weedless baits most of the time because they like to get deep in the lily pads and reeds. You can find them - and some of my best catches - in deep water along rock faces.

While I don’t particularly like to troll, you can catch them trolling as well. I have often caught them while jigging for walleye, but often they will cut the line.

Bottom line, I find fishing for Northern is a lot like fishing for bass here on the beautiful Gulf Coast.
