Nice! I used to fish for Weakies and Blues in Delaware Bay with my father when I was growing up. Congrats!
Nice fish! Sounds like the ideal day on the water. Were you using live bait?
Has anybody had any success using a lipless crank bait in a river? Seems hard to get the right action unless you are retrieving it directly against the current.
Hit the Sacramento this morning with 2 friends. Caught some nice fish trolling off of Garcia Bend )at least they did, me not so much). Still a great morning.
I grew up fishing the Deleware Bay every weekend with my Dad. Squid was the go to for flounder, but was great for sea trout and blues too. Just make sure you keep it out of the sun or you'll never eat calamari again.
Nice way to start off the year! Now I have Bass envy. Very nice fish, thanks for sharing.
I did see one gut pull in a really nice size striper on chicken liver of all things. I just started fishing that area and am still trying to figure out where the fish are.
Tried trolling the Sacramento using some of the tips picked up from you guys. Worked the banks around Garcia Bend toward Freeport bridge. Hooked 2 very small spotted bass on a shad spoon. Even with the wind it was still a good day. No fish but did get to play with the new fish finder. Beats the hell out of yard work!
Good tip, I will put that in to practice this weekend and let you know how we did. Thanks.
Yes, against current = up stream
Great info. captjim. Much appreciated. I will keep it mind next time I hit the river.
LoL What you said Nhfly! I was wondering if trolling with the current is worth the gas is all.
I am new to trolling, mostly for striper in the Sacramento/American rivers. Since most fish are moving upstream during spawning season, is there any point to trolling downstream? Even at other times, is it a waste of valuable fishing time?
Here she is, it's been a labor of love....ish.
Bought a used Gregor 16' aluminum boat, and after 6 months of blood, sweat, and tears (and inadvertently teaching the neighbor's kids some really cool new swear words), got her on the water yesterday on the Sacramento River at Garcia Bend. Not only does she float on top of the water, but she catches fish too! A good day.
