Stripers??? Anybody have any guidance on where to go ? What’s everyone using for live bait or rigs lures ?

They’re moving south fast. Still have a chance in NJ on LBI and south to cape May. Boats are also getting them inside of the three mile line. However there have been a lot of reports of boats marking large numbers of fish but not getting them to bite. Those who were successful got them trolling umbrellas and mojos and some on flutter spoons. From the beach your best bet is soaking clams in cuts while you throw sand eel imitations in the wash and troughs.

I have been keeping it wrapped in the containers in the garage but it's starting to get below freezing. Leave it there or bring it in basement? I've never had leftover GULP before. Probably three or four packs.

I bought a Square clear plastic jar with about a 4 inch round screw on lid. I keep all of my gulp that. Except unopened packages. All the juice from the package goes in the jar with all of the assorted baits. Grubs, swimming mullet mostly and some eels and shrimp all in different sizes and colors. I also buy the recharge bottles of gulp juice to add to the jar periodically. In the winter I store it in my basement with my fishing gear and some boat items. I have left the jar in the baitwell in the boat and I’m not sure if it’s ever been frozen but it’s certainly been cold enough to freeze. The juice turns a brown color after awhile, but it still works great. Flounder, sea robins, bluefish, and blowfish all really seem to love it.

It’s mainly from Barnegat inlet and north right now but they’re sliding down into the LBI area where a few have been caught. Action is heating up. There’s a lot of bunker out there.

Awesome! It’s on out there now. They’re moving south but there’ll be more to come.

Welcome aboard!!
The main striped bass fall migration hasn’t reached your area yet. It is happening now up north of you in the manasquan inlet, Seaside, Island Beach State Park, Barnegat inlet and a few are being caught off of LBI. There are holdover, schoolie sized stripers being caught in the back bays all over NJ now. Remember that the legal slot limit was deacreased to 28-31 inches. There is a terrific Tautog (aka Tog , blackfish) bite going on right now up and down the entire coast of NJ on the jetties, piers and out on the wrecks. There is also a lot of black sea bass in the same areas. You really should take advantage of the opportunities here now.

Anyone in south jersey seaside to lbi have any news on the striped run

I haven’t been there recently but from what I hear, it’s getting better and better. Island Beach state park, Barnegat inlet, mid island LBI, Holgate, and AC jetty’s all doing well. First light, and last light into dark are best times. Whenever wind switches to offshore get out there. Chicken scratch SP, soft bait Shad’s, paddle tails are working. Check with Grumpy’s bait and tackle, Surf City bait and tackle, fisherman’s headquarters, Jingles bait and tackle, Riptide bait and tackle.

Just transferred to JBMDL from Virginia.. grew up in Maryland, spent many a day fishing Chesapeake Bay for Stripers and Blues.. Would like some general ideas on fishing for them here in NJ. Plan on taking a few days off in October and thinking of trying my luck at LBI. Anybody have any advice fishing from the shore.. Is bait better?? I prefer lures but whatever works best I'm willing to try. TIA

The fall run won’t be on yet in October, but there will be some stripers around in ocean and bay. Check out " Bayside Dave” on Facebook and YouTube. Check in with Fisherman’s Headquarters its right where you come onto the island in Ship Bottom they can help you with everything and their website has some great info for fishing on the island as well. Surf City bait and tackle is just north of Ship Bottom, Jingles’ bait and tackle is south on the island in Beach Haven. If you have 4wheel drive you can drive on the beach but each township has their own passes and rules. From the beach try Bunker chunks and mullet or clam for bait fishing. I prefer throwing plugs while bait is soaking.

New to surf fishing. Looking for guides/instruction to target blues and stripers from surf. Does this exist ?I am located in the Pt Pleasant Beach area. TIA

Look for "Bayside Dave” on Facebook and YouTube. Also John skinner has some good videos on YouTube. Grumpy’s bait and tackle in Seaside Park and Betty and Nick’s also in Seaside Park have everything you need and can guide you. Search for "Surfcasters journal” on YouTube. "The fisherman magazine” besides the actual magazine, has weekly reports on YouTube that provide great tips and advice. Hope this helps you.
