I didn’t get a hit on my last 3 trips to Manasquan.
Call local bait and tackle shops. They usually have a handle on that info.

Four weeks ago it was mojos (fish eating butterfish). Two weeks ago it was diamond jigs (fish eating sand eels). Like he said call a tackle shop
I have struck out in estuaries (Great Egg Harbor Bay) last 2 times. My friend is catching about a mile out off OCNJ coast as of this weekend.

?Biomass,? that is what we have now in South Jersey (FINALLY!!). We don?t have a trickle of stripers, or a few stripers being caught, we have a legitimate biomass of migratory fish in our waters. From Tuckerton down to Cape May, the fish are here, and there seem to be more fish as you go south towards the tip of the state. The Atlantic/Cape May County border reports some of the best striper action they have seen all season. And as you move south to the Wildwoods and Cape May, the action is now similar to what was happening in North Jersey last month. Fish are being caught under working birds and among feeding whales. Action like we haven?t seen in years here in South Jersey.

Right place, right time. There’s been blitzes along the northern Jersey coast but it’s been sporadic and quite unpredictable surf wise. The boats with the ability to move with the fish and intel from their comrades have been doing quite well.

The question was for surf fishing South Jersey. Yea, if you read the reports most fish are out front 1-5 miles. The fall run hasn’t been great for surf anglers or Inlets south of LBI for years. Spring, that’s a different story because they are coming in to spawn in our rivers.

They’re moving south fast. Still have a chance in NJ on LBI and south to cape May. Boats are also getting them inside of the three mile line. However there have been a lot of reports of boats marking large numbers of fish but not getting them to bite. Those who were successful got them trolling umbrellas and mojos and some on flutter spoons. From the beach your best bet is soaking clams in cuts while you throw sand eel imitations in the wash and troughs.

That’s a good way to fish from shore. Find a good looking spot-put a couple baited lines out and cast lures with another rod.
