I've heard of this happening. Check with one of the local bait shops. They'll be able to help you out as well.

Sorry for the late reply, just saw this. No real need for a guide, never heard of this type of service. Surf fishing is easy to get started. Get a budget rod and reel to start using mono line, learn to tie a dropper loop, there are many instruction videos available or buy some pre tied rigs. Get whatever fresh bait is available, toss it out with enough weight to hold, I like the clam tongue style instead of pyramids or sputnicks. You don't have to cast out far, most of the bites happen close to the beach. This is the best time to go, hope this helps.

Thanks, appreciate the input! I have braided line on all of my reals. Assuming i can tie a mono leader to barrel swivel and then use some sort of a surf rig. Any suggestions for best type of rig to use with fresh bait? thanks again for your help

On my braid I tie a 1/0 Swivel-Snap at the end with just a double loop.
Then I snap the Rig on and put the hooks on the Rig. Found out that using a Paper Clip (thanks to friends here) to connect the sinker to the snap at the end of the rig. That way IF you get the sinker snagged it pulls off, but you still have your Rig.
Now IF you slid your sinker up your line and then put the 1/0 Swivel-Snap on with the double loop, you never have to buy "Fish Finders". Snap the hook with leader on the end of the Swivel-Snap and you will have a Carolina Rig.
I learned it out west as a Sliding Sinker. The 1/0 Swivel-Snap is the stopper for the sinker.
Go to Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware and look for Schedule 40 PVC pipe. 1&1/4 to1&1/2 inches across. Depends on your rod handles for them to slip into.
Look for a 6-8 foot section, buy it and then cut it at a slant in the middle. You now have 2 great sand spikes.
To get fancy, you can drill a hole through both sides and use a lag bolt with a wing nut to stop the handle of the rods from bottoming out if you want. You can drive these into the sand/or dirt with the flat side of a 3 Lb Hammer without them breaking. Runs about a $1 a foot last time I bought some.
The wing nuts means you can remove the bolts easy for putting in the car without making damage to the car.

Shore Catch Guide Service can take you surf fishing. American Littoral Society has an annual surf fishing 🎣 clinic. I caught fish 🐟 (74) on my last 22 consecutive fishing trips in Manasquan Inlet with an Ava and teaser rig. You should catch lots of fish in the Point Pleasant surf on the outgoing tide after sunset. The fish 🐠 are close to shore at night. Local tackle shops are helpful. Post pics of your catch. Check all fish for tags. You can get $1,000 reward for reporting tagged fish. Good luck 👍🍀.

I started out using rigs from the tackle shop and learned how to tie them. I have 50lb braid and have been using 20lb leader tied on with an FG knot keeping the hardware to a minimum. You should probably start out with a snap on the end using a palomar knot, very easy to tie. I also use 2 larger rods set with sand spikes but I like the ones with aluminum angle attached, no hammer needed, you just wiggle them down into the sand above the water, they will fall from the surf action. I also set out a tiny rod with fishbites and usually will catch some live bait or have an epic battle with a larger fish. If you decide to fish the rocks be careful even seasoned jetty guys can get really banged up.

Look for "Bayside Dave” on Facebook and YouTube. Also John skinner has some good videos on YouTube. Grumpy’s bait and tackle in Seaside Park and Betty and Nick’s also in Seaside Park have everything you need and can guide you. Search for "Surfcasters journal” on YouTube. "The fisherman magazine” besides the actual magazine, has weekly reports on YouTube that provide great tips and advice. Hope this helps you.
