I know they work very well but don’t understand how they work.
A friend of mine fished for Carp exclusively and that is all he uses and catches gigantic carp.
He makes his own rigs and he may even sell them through Amazon.

A four foot leader is plenty of about 12-15 pound test and no tippet required.The loop knot is not necessary.

Tides mean everything if you are fishing in tidal water.
I believe there are feeding periods in non tidal waters and some species feed more often under low light conditions and some feed more often at night.
So the answer is to fish when ever you can and hope for the best.
I guess that is why they call it fishing.

For the surf I recommend the “Monic” intermediate line and not that expensive compared to the more popular brand names.
In fact, all Monic lines are great and about $20.00 - &30.00 cheaper than the more popular brands.
