George here. Have been reading a-lot about hair rigs for carp and catfish. Ordered some ready-mades from Amazon. Has anyone used this rig and is it true that this rig will (way) out fish a conventional carp or catfish rig? Any advice?

I have never used one, and I have caught a bunch (!) of catfish on plain old circle hooks. I've caught a few carp that way too, by accident. I've never targeted them. Let's see what others have to say. And welcome to the Stage doc.

Watched some fishers yesterday using bait baskets they got of off Amazon. They were nailing the Carp with the mixture they were using. Only 1 cat i guess they were picky eaters.

First i have ever seen such a thing, the concept is the bait leaches out into the water i guess and eventually the Carp found a piece with a hook in it.

If you want to bait an area throw out a couple cans of whole kernel corn over the area to be fished. Corn is cheap and easy to scatter , it draws Carp like a magnet ! I have done this many times with great success , ya gotta keep it simple !

if chumming is legal, punch holes in each end of a dog food and throw it out.

Is it best to do this several days before I fish the area, or can I expect results quickly. I hear whole corn, from the can is also good to chum. Thanks for reply. Doc.

No one addressed the issue of the hair rig?
I know they work very well but don’t understand how they work.
A friend of mine fished for Carp exclusively and that is all he uses and catches gigantic carp.
He makes his own rigs and he may even sell them through Amazon.

Welcome to the Stage drgeorge. I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about but good luck with it.

The hair rig is a fishing method which allows a bait to be presented without sitting directly on the hook. It is mainly associated with boilies, but also works effectively with many other baits.

The hair rig became popular in the 1980s and was a joint invention by Kevin Maddocks and Len Middleton. It has been experimented with by many anglers, and has revolutionized carp fishing.

I make my own and use them a few times. Make my own pack bait and put it on a method feeder then about a 4 inch leader with a treble hook and my pack bait. Been catching lots of carp with it. Like it better than the hair rigs.
But I know lots of guys swear using a hair rig. Here ear by the hair rig. Going to use them again next time I go out. Hard to change to something different when you are catching fish. Here is my rig set up.

I looked it up Plum and saw what they look like. I guess if I was fishing for Carp, which I’ll never do, I’d buy them. They’re cheap enough.
