I fished Deer Creek for hickory shad until we had a pretty bad drought and the run couldn't make it upstream. Havent been back much since. No fish. May try again this spring. They are still catch and release.

I also fished Deer Creek with a #5 fly rod and had a ball. That's the only thing I miss this time of year are the shad runs both hickory and white. Caught a 6.5 lb white shad below Conowingo Dam.

I've never eaten a carp and probably never will, is there anyone out there who has?, what are they like

I've caught fresh water carp in the Susquehanna River in Harford Co. Maryland. I was talking to 2 guys who had a few carp and questioned them as to why they are keeping them. The said that they scale and gut them and cut them into pieces. They boil them until the flesh is falling off the bones. They then strain the meat and add Old Bay and a few other spices and make fish cakes out of them. Said they taste just like crab cakes. I had baked fresh water carp cooked in tomato sauce and it was OK. Had it only once. As kids we use to keep them and trade them for ice cream at a Jewish deli. That was a long time ago.

Cool, I can’t read it, but looks like an old Pflueger I had. Put it on a shelf or in a shadow box.

Had one just like it. Mine was a Pflueger.

I loaded my kayak on to my 4-Runner by myself. I can't think of the name of my rack right off but it had a bar that was tucked away on the left rear rack and it slid out about 3' . You put the bow on it and then lifting the stern and you just pushed it on the rack. Very easy.

I’ve never been to a place where you have to pay to fish but I recently discovered that there is a place about 50 miles from my house where you pay $15 to fish all day. The predominant fish seems to be catfish and the place attracts the typical catfish crowd.

What do you guys think of these places?

Where in Maryland do you pay to fish.

I not only fished in the rain but when I lived in Maryland I fished thru the winder just below a power plant. Just had to keep the ice out of the rod eyes. Every 3-4 cast you had to chip it out. Caught plenty of yellow perch and a few large mouths.
