Morgan bought her first fishing license yesterday and we worked on casting and a few retrieve techniques. After sundown and dinner we went out on the pier and tried a popper. It took a few minutes to get the jerk…jerk…pause to get the lure to pop, but she got it. First fish was a 14” LM. It may even have been a spot as the mouth resembled a smallie, but not sure we have those here? Next cast resulted in an overachieving 4 1/2” rock bass and about 10 minutes later a 6” bluegill. I think we have a new fisher person in the fold. 😉

I'm smiling OJ. You made a great connection with your future DIL. Just one question. Does your son like fishing too? LOL

I agree completely Mike. I can't, for the life of me, understand why some people complain about our discussions, or attempt at comedy, or talking about family issues. IF IT DOESN'T INTREST YOU, DON'T READ IT!
Pretty simple if you ask me.

YES!!!

I ignore what I don't like and contribute on the rare occasion that I might know what I'm talking about. That's all you can do.

My finger dexterity has really deteriorated the past couple years. Arthritis
Tying knots takes a lot more effort than it used to
I am really anal about my knots.
If it don’t come together perfectly or it don’t look exactly like it should, I’m cutting and re tying.
I have been using more complex knots like the FG , Alberto, San Diego jam etc
Seems I’m doing a lot of re tying alot lately
Anyone else have problems with your fingers not doing what you want

The last two years I'm back to fishing after many years away from it. I hate that I'm not (no pun intended) able to tie knots like I did before.

Anybody eat this poison? I love those mofos. Living in Fl I know I will never have a real Brat. I bet they have the good stuff up there in Wisconsin and such

Poison? Maybe you're right. Between the brats and the beer I have developed a huge growth on my belly. The real 6-pack abs.

There is another stop out there made of thin plastic that you thread through 4 holes in a piece that resembles pipe strap. These work okay, but you lose immediate adjustability. I have yet to find a perfect solution. The original stops were made from a smaller diameter and worked so much better

I think this is the stop that I use and it adjusts okay for me. If I drop the rig it can get hung in the last eye. If I cast it out it goes fine.

Well, I tried to use a a grub as a “fly”(due to the wind) with mixed results in a local pond. I caught fish, but had some short strikes and misses, then switched to a small, bee imitation. Game on. If I could cast beyond the scum, I caught one on every cast.
My Son joined me for an hour or so and caught about a dozen himself on my 5pc travel rod. Nice way to spend a few hours. First and last fish pics attached.

Nice catch, OJ.

Living in Horicon Wi with my dear wife Terri, where we hook up our boat and head out for a day on a local lake which there are many. Catching anything is fun but the bigger the better when it comes to keeping to eat.

Welcome to the Forum. I'm in Washington County and fish mainly to the east of you.

I've got a real short 9.5 perception yak and am ready to upgrade. My budget is low, about 400, so I was looking at the 11.5 lifetime because my current has terrible tracking and its too much effort and time to cover much water with it. But I can also get a jon boat for the same price.. that gives me more space, easy stand up casting, and also and motor to cover way more water than I could on a yak in way less time. But I know that yaks let you get through way shallower water and squeze through tighter corridors, into brush trickets, and flooded treetop thickets. Is there any reason people choose to buy kayaks costing 3k vs getting a fairly nice fishing boat for that price? The main reason I got kayak was so I could get in a boat and on the water with something I could actually affects. Basically I'd like to know what makes people who could afford a decent boat instead opt to drop high dollars on a kayak.

People have commented on the pros and cons of a kayak vs a jon boat. I would just like to know where you can get a jon boat with a motor for $400, per your posted budget.
