Trying to figure out the best method for catching trout on lake billy chinook in oregon, is there success to be had?
The beauty of the lake is that you have several kinds of fish, yes the trout is there but the rainbows are close to the tributaries where the water is still cool, so head up to where the rivers come into the lake and you will find them. Also the big bull trout early in the season are available close to the surface all over the lake. You also have lots of kokes and those you have to locate with fish finders and finally you have small mouth bass and the are in the coves under 10 feet.
You are right on one of the best spots for fishing… make friends with tackle shops and get info… you have salmon, steelhead, sturgeon very close by. For small fish, you can go trout and if you want to get paid, go after (s….) and the ODFW will pay you for each one… good luck and have fun.
The main lake is too hot to fish now, need to try the tributaries… Metolious arm if full of kokes on their way to spawn at the lake river line… will be gone in a few weeks
Deschutes arm good for rainbows and browns must go past the lake river line or until temperature drops below 50degrees
Crooked arm is now loaded with white fish, good size
Good luck
Just look at it in a different way… I don’t belong to an exclusive club, neither drink or play golf, my enjoyment in fishing is fantastic and I am not in hurry to get to the fishing spots, lots of time available to do it right… as result the catching is fantastic and the fishing is right along all the time.
My favorite is Cajun line (red) because I can see fading or sun damage and will cut the line damaged by the sun. Once it gets down I will replace the rest, May be every 2 years. It is just as efficient catching fish as any other kind or brand. I do it on all the reals from 6# to 20# line..
Can you share the lakes name and your method of fishing?
Good option East lake, has what you want with one option that mosquitos don’t get you because of the altitude. Big browns, rainbows, kokes. Rustic cabins, boats, small cafe, friendly staff
Next door lake Paulina has similar options, no boat rentals but nice restaurant…
Absolutely correct on all counts. I have a mercury60HP on a Boston Whaler 17 Mountac and it is a pleasure run it at 30 mph as well as troll all day... this item makes me good... best investment
Thank you for the information.. very much aware of the special rules, just looking for info to target the Bull trout.. have used Mag Lips recently to some success, interested in more tips and specific locations, thanks.
Any information on the Metolious arm at Billy Chinook lake??
Lake Billy Chinook has kokes. The fishing has been hot for up to 13 inch fish..use pink Gibbs tipped with crappie niblets pink. Look for the boats and cast and use a little bit of jigging as you bring it back... got limit in one hour.
You guy are under the influence... that is a shark all the way.
Also go to grocery store and get the paste tube. It is cheep and efficient for any kind of fish
