That is a big shark, too.

I grew up in Southern California. I worked with a guy that used to water ski in the ocean. His last time, he was skiing along, felt a big bump, and when he turned around, there was a large dorsal fin of a shark sticking up right where he hit the bump. As I said, that was his last time.

Freck37 -- let's have a link or picture of that $400 swimbait, please. I have seen $20-$40 ones and thought them excessively priced.... need to see what 10 times that looks like. While you're at it, please tell us what the targeted species would be and what kind of rod/reel/line would be appropriate.
I'm guessing if I had a $400 LURE, I would be using 200lb+ braid, to ensure that it came back to me !

I’m with you on that one. I’d be hard pressed to not use chain if I was about to throw a $400 lure.

I have an Oklahoma Joe. I like it, but it's a lot of work. My brother has the Weber one that looks like R2D2. He puts a bag of charcoal in with a bunch of pork butts and goes to bed. When he wakes up in the morning, he adds a bit of charcoal and bastes a bit. The butts come out awesome. His son in law has an ugly drum smoker that does butts in half the time of either of ours. It all comes down to what your budget is, and how much work you do or don't want to do to get to delicious food.

Well, I don't know what to say. My best fishing partner is my wife and I am thrilled when she out fishes me. Somehow, you need to get your hubby to appreciate that he has a wife who loves to fish! This is the best of all and for many men, would be the holy grail of fishing partners.

I hope my wife out fishes me every time we go out!

I'm with those that would be thrilled to be outfished by my wife. I can almost never get her to come fishing with me. I gladly put the bait on her line, take the fish off, whatever, even if I get no time to fish myself. It's awesome to have her come with me. I wish she would come with me way more often than she does.

Here in Utah, you can buy your license online using the state's app. You can just have your phone with you and you don't have to carry the paper license with you. The fine for not having a license is a lot more than a license.

I recommend you go to Walmart, buy the 300 yards for a dollar mono line, spool it up, and put at least a half ounce sinker on there and start with that. That way, if you get a monster birdsnest, you're out a few cents and can re-spool, rinse repeat. After a few hours of practice, you'll start to get it down.

I think the simple answer to your original question is that yes, you can tie the knots any time before. You can use saliva to wet the knots when you tie them.

But people do not want to spend $3 or $4 for a neat little tool to clean them. They want to use hook points, awls, knives, axes, chisels, needles, toothpicks or pointed sticks. I give up!!!

I'm all about using my ax. Come on, we all want to use the biggest possible tool for the job!

The Trilene knot is much stronger and easier to tie than the clinch knot. Not sure if it’s better than the palomar knot.

Watch this video on how to cast a spinning rod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUurIgE2H8U It helped me a lot. If the link doesn't come through, search Chris Meyers casting.
