Caught a 11 lb cat today in a pond near my house about 6:15, 6:30 this afternoon. Been catching some 4 1/2 to 6 lb cat there. This was a fighter. Was using a 12 ft graphite rod with 20lb braided line. I have had better luck with the braided line than mono. Was using hot dog for bait. Been using shrimp but tried the hot dog today. Works pretty well. Bought a new Abu Garcia reel today and planning on trying it out next week. Gonna put some Spider Wire line on it and see how it works. Can’t be too bad, it should be as good as J Braid. Would like to add a picture but I cannot seem to figure it out. I ain’t to smart on this stuff. I am used to the old tube stuff from the 1950’s and 1960’s. My 1930 Model A car I have is more my style.

Yea, I agree wit you. Damped things stink now for me. Can’t imagine a nice big catfish wanting one anyhow!

I quit smoking 20+ years ago. The other day I left my bait at home and My said here, try this. It was a part of a bagel with peanut butter on it. I caught a 7 1/2 lb cat.

Back to the Ulu. My wife lived in Adack (sp), for 2 to 3 years and still has her two Ulu knives. She uses them all the time and really amazes me with their use. I have made several with deer antler handles.

I asked my wife the other day if she wanted to go fishing and she said yes. She caught a small perch while I caught two nice cats. We were talking and I suddenly asked her if she would like to run my dozer. Of course I would she said. It doesn't look that hard. You do it, she said. Ok, so just don’t think they won’t like to do what you can do. She even likes to shoot my guns. I gave her a 20 gauge over and under which she likes very much.

Back in Texas in the 1960’s I saw a guy trying to retrieve his boat on a trailer. He got it on the trailer and then backed up into the water, car and all. He got out and asked for help. I called a friend who came and pulled him out. Opened the trunk and beer cans floated out. Opened the back doors and beer cans floated out. He then got into his car an then took off. My friend had to chase him down to get paid for getting him out of the lake. Now that is how some people react when you try to help them. I ain’t even got the nerve to do that.

I grew up in Texas, then moved to N. O., LA. In 81 I moved to MS. I now live outside of Osyka, MS. Been pond fishing for cats and the other day I caught a 24” and a 28” cat. The next day I caught another 24” one on shrimp which seems to be the best bait for me. I tried worms and then some chicken livers. I might try a treble hook with the liver and bread combo since I have trouble keeping the bait on. I have a 9’ graphite rod that cast a good distance with mono line so I bought a spool of 20# braid that is equivalent to 8# mono and will try that next.

Greetings. Been watching the post for a while and find them very interesting, so I wonder if anyone in MIssissippi has a favorite lake to bank fish for cats or other? I have a few old timers suggest going to Lake Mary. Thanks and give me some advice for a 76 year old duffer.

I use shrimp, but while I lived in Texas back in the 60’s and 70’s, I used Quanta bait. It was real good and stinky. Cannot find it anymore. The company went out of business. So, shrimp and chicken livers are good. So is a lot of other baits.

Greetings friends. I have been fishing with and without people for several years now. But due to my age and feet problem I have started fishing with a partner (my wife). The other day I cought a nice five or six pound cat and had trouble removing the hook. By the time I did, I was down on my knees. I couldn’t get back up. I had to crawl in the mud to my truck before I could get back up. I let the cat go. I have been using a plastic bucket to set on. It collapsed. Now I am building a wooden stool with a swiveling seat. I will be 77 on my next birthday and I plan on having a better time fishing. Sitting alone gives me time to enjoy the other things that are going on around me.
