My son caught his first shark a black tip in a little lagoon in Boca Grande. We tried eating it but it tasted like an old diaper smells! I've tried every way suggested to cook, fix shark and never found anything to neutralize the ammonia. Sharks dont pee. So not interested in shark at all. Since the Red Tide my fishing is limited to Sheepshead or Black Drum and an occasional Mangrove Snapper and of course the 🐱 🐟.

Shark are ok but you have to bleed them out and remove the blood line along the spine to help with the ammonia smell and taste. Lot of people eat them but I stick to the snappers, flounder, cobia, grouper, snook and pompano mostly. I live on a channel that is full of channel cats, bluegill, red ear, tilapia and some Mayan cichlids. I do eat the bluegill and red ear.

The sail cats are very good eating. Meat is very white and mild tasting. My brother has a lot somewhere in Port Charlotte. I had a sailboat and wife and kids and I have sailed down the coast past there several times most times we would stop in Charlotte Harbor. It was amazing when we would sail over schools of Tarpon. Never fished for them tho but to see fish some more than 6' long was a sight! I will keep your invite in mind and may PM you if you don't mind when my itch comes to that.

Do that. Tarpon are all over Charlotte harbor. Love fishing Boca Grande pass. Lots of everything in that area including Goliath grouper and large sharks.

They are good to eat. I can fix them so you can't tell them from Cracker Barrel's. Not that Cracker Barrel has the best. Most usually I smoke them and I think they great 👍.

You need to come down here to Port Charlotte on the Peace River. I can catch them one after another under the hwy 75 bridge and often catch a few topsail cats also.

I used a ned rig with small stick bait last night at Lake Ellsworth, Oklahoma and caught several LMB but no SMB. The lake does have SM but have yet to find them. Current water temp in our area run 85-89 degrees. I don't know how to put a degree symbol.

Try a creature bait in a rocky area.

Slow down to 19 mph when you are looking for fish or structure.

4-6 inch creature bait is about all I use for smallies.

90 hp Yamaha 4 stroke. I have used one for 16 years now on my 18 ft sailfish. Great fuel economy plenty of power and no problems...

The EFI is 'electronic fuel injection' as opposed to the carburators. I think they all have that now, or maybe I'm wrong on that. Once again I will say the homework I did was for the 40hp. The bigger motors are different, and I don't plan on getting one of those at my age.

You’re right about the EFI. I was thinking about the Evenrude E-Tech motor. I heard it was being discontinued.

The only motor that has a timing chain in an oil bath. More vales per cylinder makes a more quite running motor. Now I speak for the 40 hp that I did my homework on different motors. One of them was in Austrailia. A dealership, used the same type of boat with 4 different motors. OMC EFI 30hp and the 40hp EFI. A Yamaha, and a Suzuki. He tested fuel consumption, speed, sound, and getting on step. Fuel was almost all the same, speed went to the 40 EFI, sound went to Suzuki, and the winner on getting on step with 4 people on board, all sitting in the back was Suzuki. The 30 EFI did the job but took a while longer, the Yamaha did not even get up on step. Now this might be one of 1000's that would have made it, but the 30 OMC got on step. What I am seeing here is a turn for the Suzuki. More boats are having them on the back. Yamaha ruled at one time but less are now around here. I can pick up a Yamaha 40 hp most places that sell them, but Suzuki 40 is almost all gone. I found one in Florida! 40 LSE to go on my bass boat.

I know my Sailfish with the 90 hp would get up on plain real fast with 4 people in the boat and fuel economy was great. I don’t think they are making the EFI anymore.

I have nothing against Suzuki. I owned 3 Suzuki motorcycles and 3 Suzuki snowmobles. Never a motor problem with any of them. I owned a Sailfish 188 with a 90 hp Yamaha and loved it. My neighbor down the road bought it from me and loves it and it is a 2003. I also had a 14 footer with an 8 hp 4 stroke yamaha that purred like a kitten. I live in Florida now and you probably see 15 Yamahas to every 1 Suzuki. My neighbor has a Suzuki on his pontoon and loves it.

So many to choose from, and remember one might be the very best at 21 feet, and not at 24 feet. So do your homework. I have a Yamaha on my bass boat, but I would not get one as my next motor. I would look for a Suziki 4 stroke. A lot of options and lengths to choose from. When I sold yachts, I stayed away from the Grady White, but I'm sure they changed in the yrs past.

Why a Suzuki over a Yamaha. I find them both very similar and very good. Most all of the charter boats down here in Florida use the Yamahas. Must be a reason. It’s not the price.

Sailfish, cobia, angler all great bay boats. Definitely get a Yamaha 4 stroke if you want trouble free boating.

Used this kind of stringer for many years. Shove it through lower lip not the gills. Fish will stay alive for a long time this way. If you put it through the gills the fish will die in a short time.
