There's no good answer to your question. It depends on such things as the flow of the water, the species of fish you are after and the depth you want the lure presented, etc..

Hi Caliman! I live in Roseville ,Ca. and noticed your big salmon. I love salmon and Steelhead fishing and fish a lot in Northern Ca. and southern Or.(Klamath, .Smith, Rogue, Chetco Umpqua, etc.) as well as in the Sacto., Feather and American rivers. I have a 22ft.Bolton jet that my son runs now. Love fishing!

I lost a wonderful fishing partner last year and was wondering if you may want to get together for some fishing this fall?!

I would use a a clinch knot with two turns through the eye. I agree with the other responder. Your line is way to heavy(20lb max). Your problem is also trying to do 6 twists on such heavy line.

Try a 71/2 ft 6-10 spinning rod with 10 lb "Spider Wire" It casts a mile!

There a couple of easy knots to tie two ends of mono together. I can't think of their names but I'll try to find my knot book and send you a diagram. If its braided line I've found the knots more difficult to hold'

I live in Northern California. The fishing and people are great. I have a lot of friends in Oregon. I like the fishing and the people. Unfortunately, I've never been to Idaho. I hear the fishing is great and the outdoors is beautiful!

If you mean protecting our fisheries, California does a great job!

I don't what gear your using so it's hard to tell you much. Here in California's Sacramento River and Delta the stripers run from almost minnow size to over 50lbs. and average 7to10lbs. Stripers are not leader sensitive fish. Out here I use 30lb braided with 15lb mono. Again depending on your rod and real. No way would 10 and 2lbs. work!

Been trying a baitcaster for the first time, I've gotten decent at tossing heavy lures (jigs and spinners), but I can't seem to throw anything lightweight (for instance a weightless senko) very far, more than like 12 feet.

Any tips? Is it specific to my line or rod/reel?

If it matters I'm using 14lb fluoro and a medium heavy Bill Dance Quantum combo

I generally agree with Fargraven. a medium heavy rod is not for light lures. The options you have are in part dependent on the size of your reel and what your fishing for. I like my Lamaglass 6 to 12lb with with 10 or 12lb mono for all around use. If you can't change gear than try "Spider wire" line. It's thinner than mono and cast much longer!
