Thank you all for the advice! I will keep you posted on my next trip! Another question, I got 2 - 10' surf rods, but am thinking of getting 2 more, but 12' long. Any thoughts?

I usually carry 2 11 foot conventional, 2 11 foot spinners for backup, a ten foot light action for plugging and an 11 foot heavy plug rod. If I'm traveling I carry a 7 footer for fishing backwater areas. All the 11 footers are 4 to 12 oz lure weight save one that's a 6 to16. I am usually targeting fish that exceed 10 pounds. The two lighter rods get a lot if use in the summer.

The best way to return fish that have their bladder sticking out of their mouth is a barbless hook melted into a bigger sinker and dropped on a separate line . put the hook into the lower jaw, drop it into the water. its returns the fish to original depth then just give it a jerk to release the hook from the fish and return it to the surface. I do this on bottom fishing trips where the depths can be u[ to 250 feet. If you throw them back in you're just feeding the gulls. deflating the bladder with a pin or hook etc damages of the bladder and increases chance of fish mortality.

Specific info helps too because there is also a Salmon River in Pulaski New york . It's one of the Lake Erie tribs and has a hatchery there. Good salmon and steelhead fishing.

just flip the bait into the wash right around the breaker line. if you go much deeper they won't be there.

Pea soup fog and misty rain . Just read a post in a neighborhood board. Person wanted to know why a foghorn was blowing on the Delaware river last night. Some answers were less than kind.

For fly fishing I prefer a vest because it has lots of smaller pockets and I can carry different types of equipment in different places. Nice to have the net on my back out of the way. For my beach fishing I prefer the sling style. I do a lot walking flounder fishing so I don't want to need to take it off all the time. I carry a minimal amount of gear and water and pretied rigs since over the course of a day I cover 5 or 6 miles of beach. Everything stays high and dry no interference with casting and room to carry my catch.

Thanks. I'm looking for anytime of year actually. Is it worth a 3 hour drive to go to Oregon Inlet vs VA Beach?

Gotta watch them jetty rocks. If they look wet they ARE slippery. I cringe every time I see some touron running around on our big jetty with flip flops on. You wear spikes or you stay on the sand.

When I started fly fishing I figured I should learn how to tie flies so I didn't;t have to buy them. I bought a kit from a local shop and found out he had free classes which I immediately signed up for. Having someone guide you through the process of learning the basics is invaluable. All of the fly shops I have dealt with have had classes, free or minimal charge. The fun p[art was that the year after I took the class I was invited to teach the class which I did as well as two other shops. It can get addictive.

Went through all these great suggestions. Let's consider one thing. In ny location all trout are stocked. I've seen many corn cans laying around. Not all fishing folks are honest. The trout may all be caught.
