So as I was leaving Great Clips Friday morning getting a much needed haircut and I am looking up at this beautiful sunny day in Concord North Carolina thinking... “man we should be on the lake...” Dan must have been thinking the same thing... “well get on up here.. let’s go!” After a quick trip to HT for a 12” sub, Pringle’s, beef jerky and some cold Silver Bullets (a proud NASCAR sponsor) it’s on and I am heading up to Mooresville NC to meet Dan for some Friday afternoon fishing on LKN North Carolina. About 2 PM the Sun was hot and a ski boat goes flying by us pulling some maniac on a tube (see pix)... in the middle of November!

Dan shared some pics with his childhood buddies from Michigan, they called him names via text… it must be cold on Michigan

At the last minute my Buddy Dan and I decided to do a quick after work 2 hour trip on LKN… Deep Diving Crank Baits off of points proved most productive… not much size today but lots of fish. I shared a couple pics with some friends and got back… why are you excited about those little fish… my reply “ I am on beautiful Lake Norman North Carolina in November wearing shorts t-shirt and flip flops, drinking a couple cold ones with my buddy Dan, catching bass on a Tuesday “ I was known as a brainiac, but I don’t see the downside here…

Quick late afternoon trip Wednesday with Dan at Lake Norman North Carolina, I thought it was a monster the way this fish hit this Rapala... but he got a mouthful of 4 of the 6 Treble Hooks. Hopefully someday he will grow up to be a big boy!

Late afternoon bites at LKN have been good, where is everybody... we only saw 2 boats, get your butt off the couch and get on a lake!

PS Last week the south Jetties at Little River SC were more productive for Reds at the morning High Tide

Q. Has anyone done any good on the artificial reefs near the Little River SC Inlet...?

My buddy Rick and I went down to SC going for reds at the jetties at the Little River Inlet in SC yesterday… here’s a couple pictures, lots of fishing going on at the SC Jetties and a few fisherman were fishing across the inlet at the NC jetties… there were lots of fish being caught that morning, cut bait worked the best.

Well... not a banner day of fishing on LKN... but hey... it’s beats the heck out of working on a Monday and yes my friends... the beverages in the cooler were cold! Here’s Dan with one of the few we caught that day. As they say - a bad day of fishing still beats a good day at the office! A Deep Diving Rapala proved to be the most productive bait of the day!

Cool, thanks for the heads up. We got one of those Superstore Walmarts next to Concord Mills Mall about 5 minutes north of Charlotte Motor Speedway… next time I am there I will take a look.

My Dad outfished me many times with his Zebco, that was Dad’s “good pole”... a Zebco was my first good pole when I graduated from a cane pole in my youth... now my buddies have 30-40 rods and reels and grab what they are looking to throw that day, they are all using braid and tying fancy knots... I agree, sometimes it’s fun just go back to the basics and catch fish....

Add that to the list of abuse…
Push Button Zebco
Hotdog
Holds fish like a girl

In my defense it was July 4th and we had been “celebrating” all day… that fish was mad and determined to horn me cause that hook was stuck good and of course my buddy didn’t have any pliers…

OK, I already texted this picture to a couple fishing buddies and the response was “is that a push button zebco... not “nice fish” or “why were you fishing with hotdogs” but it’s a good story. Back 10 years or so ago my kids were young and wanted to go fishing, the economy was still in the toilet and money was tight. My wife said you have 20 or 30 fishing poles out there, what do you mean those won’t work? Yeah, $100 minimum rod and reels and a 5 and 7 year old, what could go wrong... Anyway I found a post on craigslist for 4 zebco combos for $20 and I didn’t even haggle with the guy, you still got em... I am on my way with a $20. Fast forward to a couple years ago and they been sitting in a corner of my garage collecting dust. A buddy of mine at LKN called me last year and family coming over and asked me to borrow some fishing poles... yeah I have some that will work great! We were up there on July 4th to watch fireworks, I was bored waiting and asked hey you still got those fishing poles... the answer was yes and I have some worms in the frig... cool! There was one night crawler in the tub... ok what else you got, I have heard catfish eat everything... sure why not. About 30 minutes go by and I am not convinced anything will eat a dawg gone hotdog... I go up to the house to take a whiz and as soon as I step out the back door I hear “wheezzzz, wheezzz” naw can’t be... the drag was miraculously set just right, I am not sure the fish gods were watching over me or just having a good laugh.
