Electric motor good for walleye, move slow, fish just off the bottom. Get a good depth finder, look for low spots.
When I started fishing left hand reels weren’t available at most stores and most reels in use were right handed and limited $ we’re available.
Right handed, left hand reels. Never made sense to have to switch hands. When I started fishing lh reels were scarce, finally common sene wins.

I am with Grizzly 17 plus John Prine.
You need either another motor or some of your buddies in a nearby boat or a really dependable radio to call for help to get you home when the motor with 250 hours dies.
Don’t forget to check ocean conditions with coast guard and your local marina staff. Have a backup plan if your motor quits. Have plenty of life jackets and a radio. Take photos of fish and send them in so we believe your lies :-)
Mid-Columbia, hire a walleye guide, good one will teach you most of the info you need to get started. Tastiest fish on the planet.
I agree give it your best shot but be very aware of getting over your head doing stuff you could do easily a few years ago. At age 80 I have several times got myself in trouble in a boat I could handle years earlier. Best plan is to have a younger partner to get you out of trouble. Can’t stand the idea of giving up my boat but I’m getting pressure to do so. Life goes on; I’m saying find a younger partner.
Thanks Doc. You look pleased but cold, a good feeling. Keep on catchin’
After further reading in google I suspect the book I was describing is Biography, not autobiography of a grizzly. Senior moment. Anyway, I enjoyed the book as a kid and suspect you will enjoy it as an old fisherman.😎
I don’t think these are the same as the book I remember. It was about 70 years ago I read it, probably out of print.
I read a book a long time ago entitled “Autobiography of a Grizzly”. This might be the one you are remembering.
