Does your state have one?
Do you agree?
If not, what fish should it be & why?
How often do you target it?

Here in NJ it is the native brook trout. Yes there are still natural trout streams in the Garden State, although most Brookies caught are hatchery raised & stocked.

If you’re not in the 🇺🇸 USA, do you have a location specific species distinct to your region, province or homeland?

Thanks
Mickey

In Virginia it is the Brook Trout.

And in Illinois it's still just the Bluegill.

The bluegill is probably the first plentiful fish all of us caught as youngsters and hooked us all for life - it did for Mickey!

Every time I catch one now, it still brings me back in time!

Gotta show the ‘gill some love!

The garibaldi is the state marine fish of California, which gives it protected status.

And according to the California Department of Wildlife the Golden Trout is the State Freshwater Fish because of its beauty. I’ve tossed them back because they are so pretty, (even tho it’s a long hike to get them, and I was pretty hungry).
Girabaldi are cool too. Most California fish are kind of drab, so it always looks like someone dumped their pet goldfish into the ocean.

Have you ever caught a golden trout? I have heard that there is a lake in Oregon that has them in it.

No I haven't. They are in the high country above 8,000 ft. Been on the bucket list just never did it now not sure if I can make the hike into the lakes. There are some outfits that will pack you in on horseback might look into that this year.
