Have been plagued with motion sickness since I was a pup - was told it's caused by an inner-ear problem,
as it also affects your balance ! May have been the result of an early
accident/concussion, as I've had this problem since I was very young !

Last time I flew I was wearing those 'SeaBand' wristbands - was still
slightly out-of-sorts, but not nearly
as nauseous as without them !

My Mother always got "Motion Sickness", Flying, sometimes just riding in a car.
Later on in years she suffered with Vertigo.

But here's the catch....
After trying every trick in the book she discovered that putting a small piece of cellophane tape over her belly button, that she never got motion sickness again. (Probably read that in Reader's Digest HaaHa)

Her latest flight was at the age of 91 years young. She flew from The ATL (That airport alone can make you sick) to Tampa Bay International airport. Not a bit of trouble.

She has flown all over the world and on a lot of military transports, Go Figure.

You never know Big A, you just might ought to give it a try. No one would know. What could it hurt?

Blue Skies always,

BD

Thanks for the input - will consider trying next time I fly anywhere, but
it's usually the long flights cross-country/5-6 hours) that bother
me, as I can't sleep that long on
a plane !

Next (anticipated) flight should
only be a two-hour 'hop', which are seldom a problem and where the 'SeaBands' are usually adequate !

Glad I found this photo before planning my next trip - now I know who NOT to fly with !

Duct tape ? SERIOUSLY ? ? ?

Guess I'll be taking more United or Delta flights for awhile - American Airlines will be missing a regular passenger until I deem them safe
to fly with again !

Hey now, that stuff is approved by Nascar.perfectly safe

I have no compunctions about
using it on any ground vehicle
or water craft, but at 30,000 feet ?
Five miles is a lo-o-o-ong drop if something goes wrong up there !

Have always been pretty daring
and have survived more than
a few stupid stunts, but I never
pushed my luck if I thought the
odds were against me ! The odds against surviving a five-mile drop
are astronomical, so I'll pass !

Be that as it may, it doesn't mean
I'd want to risk my life on a duct
tape engine repair - I'm not really comfortable with flying to begin

500mph/30,000 ft. up with
a duct taped engine doesn't exactly inspire confidence ! Thanks, but
NO THANKS !

Oddly enough, my dearly departed Dad, who had grown up about 2× miles from a dirt-strip airfield, in the 1930's & 40's... Learned how to fly before he was "legal to drive"; would ALWAYS "refer to" duct tape, as: "500 mile an hour tape"!!!
He and Ma both (on separate occasions) told me of a day, when he was "giving her a flight lesson" (he had become "an Instructor"; by sometime in the 1950's); ... They were flying along, straight and level, when he suddenly twists around and handed her a couple of sticks of chewing gum. ... She told him that she didn't really like chewing gum... He told her: "CHEW"!!!
He then demanded the gum BACK... added it to the gum HE was chewing and proceeded to "stop" a fuel leak... Then turned towards "Horn's", which was the name of the flying school, put it on the ground and "wrote it up" as "needing maintenance"!!!

It's not duct tape. Duct tape has a fabric base. The stuff they're putting on the plane is a metal backing (usually aluminum, sometimes something stronger) and the adhesive on that stuff makes duct tape look about as effective as flour and water paste.

Sorry ! There's a world of difference between being a 'devil-may-care' kind of daredevil who takes chances, and an idiot who bucks the odds ! I prefer the odds in my favor - doesn't mean some of the stunts I've pulled (and gotten away with) weren't risky in
their own right !

Some of those stunts I was lucky
to survive without serious injury;
like Ron White says - ''You can't fix stupid !" Although you CAN'T fix it,
if you're very good or very lucky (or both), you just might survive it !

I "come out of a tree" in the summer of 1975... Eye witnesses claimed that I bounced about "as high as their shoulders"!!!

Yep! Well, take it from me, stay out of pear trees unless you have a good safety net below. I was a teenager and several of my family decided to go down to an abandoned farm house and pick some pears from trees that were loaded with fruit. I was designated as the tree climber to get those pears higher up. Well, as you would probably guess, the pear tree limbs aren't very strong. I was quite high up, when a limb broke, I began to fall and tried to grab the next set of limbs, they also broke, and so did the third set! I was headed for the ground when my uncle saw what was happening and caught me! Just Sayn...RJS

Well, I'm glad he was there, to catch ya! ...Me, someone "trying to catch me" would have been a bigger mes... I was nearly 30 feet up a pine tree, attempting to make "a Tarzan swing" out into the Nashua River, on a phookin' HOWSER... At least YOU were trying to do "something productive"!
The doctor said that I'd crushed my heal "like an eggshell" and fractured my tibia, as well. My left ankle has "bothered me" on and off, ever since!!

Had a similar incident in my early-twenties - four of us had been out 'cruising' (with a couple of six-packs) when we pulled off onto a dirt road near a set of power-lines to 'relieve' ourselves of a few beers ! We were
all a little tipsy, and one guy gets the bright idea to climb one of several
big pine trees clustered together
in a tight group - within ten minutes,
we had four half-drunken idiots up about 25/30 feet in the tree-tops, reaching and leaping from branch to branch and/or from tree to tree playing TAG, of all things !

One mis-step is all it took to end that game - fortunately for me, several large limbs beneath me helped break my fall, so that my injuries were all minor - just a bunch of painful
scrapes and bruises all over !

Guess I got lucky on that one - it
could have ended much worse !
Sure sobered up quick, though !
