I have caught panfish that were previously released with a hook in their throat that the previous fisherman must have cut the line on, but never a lure.

I have caught Catfish with hooks in their mouth 👄 and some pan fish 🐠 with small jigs in their mouths

Yes, back about 1980, East Lake or Paulina, up in Oregon. We trolled one way, the other guy trolled the direct opposite direction, I hooked a nice trout, as we netted the fish, we noticed commotion on his boat as well… Both of us were trolling glittery black flatfish lures, there were two black flatfish lures in the trout, but there was only one fish and he was in my net! You can figure out the rest of the story🤣

I would've mounted that fish and it would be on the wall with everything still attached great conversational piece🇺🇸😳👍

Damn, I wish I'd thought of that. You're right, that would have been a very interesting mount!! I Still have that rod and reel by the way.

Nice fish...In CA that is a really nice fish. Don't know what happened but most of the big Stripers are very rare now but pre 80's or pre 70's there was still a bunch around.

Drought and controlled water flows. I worked construction and saw guys coming down from Orville, Yuba City, etc. and they would leave early to fish I think the American River and they would catch big nice Stripers and Salmon before coming to work. The fish were 20 lbs plus, beautiful fish!!

You know that always a rough question to answer. There are so many regulatory agencies that have control on water and honestly, I am not sure what the F & G are doing at management level. I remember really healthy numbers of large Striped Bass, Salmon and Steelhead along with huge runs of Shad and gigantic Sturgeon. I know the Striped Bass population is less and the fish much smaller on the whole. Salmon runs are supposed to be coming back and is as good as the 1950's. Salmon are showing up in smaller creeks that haven't had them or in very small counts. As for the bigger runs in the major rivers, because of demand on water, drought and the over average warmer temperature in the state, I don't really see it. They say it is much better though. It's the same for Steelhead and Shad. Sturgeons I believe will be better because they have created a limited slot size for what you can take but not sure is it's too late and the damage poachers have done. We used to have very nice sturgeon fishing with quantity and quality. Presently you can take one in possession 40" to 60" with a limit of three a year. You need an additional fishing report card to be purchased to fish for Salmon, Steelhead and Sturgeon.

Now I see all these regulations in other states coming into play but it's up to the fisherman to trust their judgements to make it happen here on Cape Cod the Cod fishery is almost nonexistent it's very slowly making a comeback that'll take years because of them being overfished our waters hold record numbers of fish every year people catch 60+ lb Stripers from the shore along with record numbers of all kinds of fish but we have the strickest rules on the East Coast shores that have made that happen if you over fish the area and your taking those fish out of the picture it takes a toll on the fisheries that takes years if at all to return to the norm and the food and the polution come into play also garbage, sewage, plastics, etc, etc and on and on its up to us as fisherman to protect what we love or there be nothing left for future generations we don't want to end up like Japan did you ever see what the go through to fish it happens here at the cape cod canal during the striper runs it's arm and arm fisherman the length of the canal, you see it in salmon streams Why do you think a lot of people have there own private trophy lakes and ponds I myself get away from the crowds. And go go places that No one goes and if I catch anything it goes back in that water to be caught another day l know I'm rambling on but ill shut up now😶✌

I recently had a line fail and I failed (lazy) to change until I lost 3 big Striper Schoolies (guessing at least 30 inches). So 3 fish with a 1 oz bucktail and a bright bubblegum tail attached out there now.

Braid was old and hacked up from structures and oysters in SC. And then from the first big Striper rubbing up against the cement pier I fish off here in Brooklyn.

Photo is around average size I’m catching now.

I was ice fishing and the line broke. Two hours later I caught that same fish and got my lure back.
My brother-in-law was bank fishing close by, when he cast out and was looking for something to lay his rod on a fish took off with his pole. I went off to one side and cast a large cast master and after a few casts I prayed to get his rod back only I got the rod and the fish that took it.Nice trout !!!

A friend of mine fishing a walleye lake in Utah hooked the split ring of another rig that broke off someone’s line fighting a walleye. He brought it in with the fish still hooked up, rig and all. Was fishing lake Powell in Utah, noticed a floating dead striper nearby our boat. I cast out and caught a line and hauled in a rod and reel. Previously that morning I had broken my rod tip, who knew I would have a replacement later that morning.
