You can "bank fish" around the shore by dam but it's best to use a boat. It's a narrow lake and you can get up nearer Shasta Dam but not too close, it's posted. Headed toward Shasta Dam, there was a wider spot, maybe where a feeder creek or arm of lake right side, there was a submerged tree, was huge and some nice small mouth bass there but further up below the posted area of Shasta Dam, you drifted with nightcrawlers and pulled out really nice native Rainbows and a few Browns. I think it was below a bridge of some sort was where you couldn't go any farther. We would throw our nightcrawlers up as far as we could and drift down. Another interesting thing is I have seen really large fish using a deep diver by Keswick Dam, really big, over 4 to 5 feet. It was shocking and I slowed up lure before it came out of water. Don't know what it was, but WOW. I just saw it turn and saw it's belly, it was light or white but was huge... Anyway, there are a lot of record fish caught in Shasta Lake but I think they are really caught in Keswick Lake. It worth a look. When I lived up there, I fished it regularly with a buddy who has a small fiberglass boat we dragged down to the water.

If it was that big, it definitely was a sturgeon. There are a bunch of sturgeon in Shasta. My brother in law did some underwater repairs on the dam and he said he saw a bunch of huge sturgeon every day. I’m pretty sure I hooked one by the dam as I hooked up in over 140’ deep water and it swam in the complete opposite direction as I was trolling and spooled me in seconds. Couldn’t have been a snag because it took my line the complete opposite direction and I immediately had boat in neutral and spooled me in seconds! I’ve always wanted to go back and fish for sturgeon like they do in the rivers. I wonder if anyone has done that with any luck??

Keswick Lake, just below Shasta Lake no photos but it is a great place to fish with with a boat but shore fishing is good.

I fish Collins probably about once a month. Been doing that for about 20 years. Rollins, not so much. But I do know that there are catfish. That's what I was fishing for when I did fish it. Channel cats. I did pretty well. I fished with fresh mackerel under a bobber. If you want more info on that, just ask. This time of year Rollins can be good for trout. What is it you're interested in catching?

You’re lakes up there are taken a beating as far as water levels again, by the end of summer probably not be able to launch a boat by then, we need more water storage dams and lakes and less crap spending here in Calif, just my thoughts

Fished the kings river Rd 22 1/2 had a good day after a busy week. Cought lots of snags mostly my own fault from casting over twigs sticking out from the water. Whether was good cool in the shades warm in the sun. Lots of fish splash busy part of the river with flat bottom boats and kayaker. Looking forward to going back.

Catfish love cover and will run into it when hooked if you give em a chance. Don't use light line. I used to use 80 pound Dacron for a leader on 50 pound braid. Catfish aren't line shy, but the Dacron line is soft and it doesn't bother em at all. Give it a try. Amazon or Cabella's. Fairly cheap. tufline. Less than 15 dollars for 100 yards of 100 # - keep it dry and out of the sun and that will last you the rest of your life using it as leader material.
