Face it guys, SOME “people” are just pigs. Some of it is bad parenting and the rest is due to laziness.

Way back before time began, I was a police officer in Alaska. Littering was an arrest able offense. Officers could issue a citation or arrest a violator. Maybe I should have been tougher, but I doubt it would have done any good. I caught flack on nearly every arrest I made as it was. It is interesting that those who yell the most about the police are law violators. (Police abuse, not enforcement the exception. We can not talk about what should be done with those uniformed SOB's here) You can shame a few violators into turning the corner, but just be certain, a large block of American people will not self discipline. No respect for law, others or the environment. You just can't win.

Its a shame, Police officers have my respect, Especially today, I respect the Police, honor the Military, stand for the flag, and kneel for the cross.

Honestly most of it comes from kids, I saw a kid a couple weeks ago walk up to the trashcan and put stuff into it, a wrapper fell out and onto the ground, he looked down at it, And walked away, His mom came back and picked it up and out it in the trash for him.

There are plenty of adults who are trashing as well. How many times have I gone to the grocery store only to find shopping carts left in parking spaces with a cart corral not ten feet away. Sad!

I can barely bend over but on my walks, if I see some trash, I put on my rubber gloves and pick it up. Unfortunately a lot of it is tossed face masks. I always pick up money I see.🤓

It peeves me to see all the trash people leave on the banks of lakes and rivers. I would hope that fishermen would have a better appreciation of the environment. Unfortunately that is not the case. I pick up my trash and often what others have left behind

My wife indoctrinated me to the concept of taking empty trash bags on hikes and taking crap out with us we collected on our way back.

Some men are just selfish pigs, with no concern about others or the environment. Every day on The Sea of Cortez I would see floating plastics and a variety of junk from the locals and from the gringos. Our beaches here in Oregon are now loaded with plastic junk, probably from overseas. Most people here are environmentally conscious, but much of the world isn't. Glad I'm getting too old to see how this plays out in a few decades.

I agree. It is such a simple thing to put the trash where it belongs- in the trash. From my youngest days my folks reminded us to “leave the place cleaner than we found it when we arrived.” As a family, we still do.

That said, the sad reality of our US culture is that we are “teaching” our kids to be slobs. At almost every sporting or performance event in the country, adults/parents attending these events from middle school concerts to professional events leave their trash in the bleachers/auditoriums after the event is over. On more that one occasion I have had adults tell me that “this (ie the mess they are leaving in the stands) is what we pay our custodians for.” We teach our kids that it’s someone else’s job to pick up after us...
Is it any wonder that we see an attitude problem in our country?

We know it’s not everyone, but it is enough of us that our fishing access sites and ponds often end up a mess with everything from empty beer cans and floating styrofoam worm cartons to lunch wrappers and old monofilament leader...

As fishermen and women, we can model what we value. It doesn’t take much extra effort to carry a few pieces of other people’s trash back to the trash can at the parking lot, or net some floating garbage and drop it in the trash when we get back to the dock, or go back and pick up that wrapper that the wind blew out of our rig...
Maybe, just maybe, we can help others see the need and choose to make a difference too.

Thanks to the army of FS volunteers who do the dirty work every time they are out and are helping make our favorite spots better than when we arrived! May the tribe increase!
You all are the best.

I’m a custodian! I work at a K thru 8 School , I have heard that many times! Oh we left it for the custodian, B.S what you did is litter! My job is not to pick up after people who have no respect for not only the school I work at, but the Beautiful world we live in, I agree with seeing more mask on the ground left behind by the slobs! I have always had a reward program with the kids, i only reward them if they pick up something that dint belong to them! If I catch them littering, then they get the bucket and picker, if parents would teach there kids respect for this great world we live in it would be a much better place! I’m not saying all parents don’t, I’m saying more need to.. help keep American Beautiful!!

I forgot about this until just now but once on a Carnival cruise ship I woke up about three in the morning I was walking around the ship looking at crap and on the stern of the ship, was piled very, very, high plastic trash bags and they were being thrown overboard into the Caribbean Sea. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I walked over to the trash and asked a guy if this was legal. I was ignored until one of the Jamaicans told me I needed to mind my own business mon’. I was totally disappointed with our cruise and have never been on another.

What tips my bucket over is the litterbugs that throw their trash out of their car along the road. They just can't wait until they get home or to a gas station where there's a trash can. I find fast food containers, beer and soda cans, cigarette packs, rubber gloves, and face masks. Some folks just got no pride.

To me thats a pretty good law officer

Bassmatter hit it right on the head when he mentioned “ people who have no respect for the school or the world...” They are passing the buck. That is the mentality in our country today. What is most convenient for ME. What serves MY needs right now. If you mess up somebody else “oh well, sucks to be them” and they just walk away from it. There used to be a fine for littering. We need to get back to that. Only this time attach some community service to it. Make them walk around in public with a trash bag, picking up trash until the bag is full. You probably couldn’t get that law passed without the liberal politicians crying about how it infringes on people’s rights and how it’s degrading and somehow racist in someway. The kids who grew up with their parents hovering over them, picking up after them, going to the principal at school raising a big stink about how unfair it is that their kid can’t have an A on the project he didn’t do, those kids are running our country now. Scary isn’t it ?
