Folks blame the manufacturers of the products all the time when the problem is the PEOPLE! Mommy and Daddy must have picked up after them their entire lives? I donāt remember how old I was when I spit out a piece of gum (probably Bazooka) and got a slap in the back of the head from Mom before it hit the ground as she sternly told me to āPick it up...and put it in the trash where it belongs!ā
That was all I needed...

I'll even pick up a penny. It does say " In God We Trust " on it. Now about them Masks. I am seeing the same thing here also.
the masks carry covid i think thats why there left on the ground the squirrels eat em
I agree. It is such a simple thing to put the trash where it belongs- in the trash. From my youngest days my folks reminded us to āleave the place cleaner than we found it when we arrived.ā As a family, we still do.
That said, the sad reality of our US culture is that we are āteachingā our kids to be slobs. At almost every sporting or performance event in the country, adults/parents attending these events from middle school concerts to professional events leave their trash in the bleachers/auditoriums after the event is over. On more that one occasion I have had adults tell me that āthis (ie the mess they are leaving in the stands) is what we pay our custodians for.ā We teach our kids that itās someone elseās job to pick up after us...
Is it any wonder that we see an attitude problem in our country?
We know itās not everyone, but it is enough of us that our fishing access sites and ponds often end up a mess with everything from empty beer cans and floating styrofoam worm cartons to lunch wrappers and old monofilament leader...
As fishermen and women, we can model what we value. It doesnāt take much extra effort to carry a few pieces of other peopleās trash back to the trash can at the parking lot, or net some floating garbage and drop it in the trash when we get back to the dock, or go back and pick up that wrapper that the wind blew out of our rig...
Maybe, just maybe, we can help others see the need and choose to make a difference too.
Thanks to the army of FS volunteers who do the dirty work every time they are out and are helping make our favorite spots better than when we arrived! May the tribe increase!
You all are the best.

Iām a custodian! I work at a K thru 8 School , I have heard that many times! Oh we left it for the custodian, B.S what you did is litter! My job is not to pick up after people who have no respect for not only the school I work at, but the Beautiful world we live in, I agree with seeing more mask on the ground left behind by the slobs! I have always had a reward program with the kids, i only reward them if they pick up something that dint belong to them! If I catch them littering, then they get the bucket and picker, if parents would teach there kids respect for this great world we live in it would be a much better place! Iām not saying all parents donāt, Iām saying more need to.. help keep American Beautiful!!
Wow š¤© thanks š guys for the great response šAs some of you know I and my son just returned from a fishing š£ trip šeach time we were out before leaving our area we would look all around where we were at and be sure there was nothing left behind šI taught my son as well as myself to always clean up š§¹ your area before leaving and check to be sure all is as it was when you got there šš

God Bless You, Bassmatter!
You are such an important person in your school community. I appreciate you taking time to help your students develop the critical attributes of caring and personal responsibility. It is refreshing for me to see after 34 years as a public school educator (15 teaching & 19 as a principal) . Your role is critical and so vital to the success of the entire school community. Thanks for your years of service and your passion to keep our world the beautiful place God created it to be and to help āour childrenā step up and take responsibility for its care!

I see face masks all over the parking lot at Walmart every time I go there. The people that just throw there trash on the ground for some one to pick up were not brought up the way we were!!
It peeves me to see all the trash people leave on the banks of lakes and rivers. I would hope that fishermen would have a better appreciation of the environment. Unfortunately that is not the case. I pick up my trash and often what others have left behind

Honestly most of it comes from kids, I saw a kid a couple weeks ago walk up to the trashcan and put stuff into it, a wrapper fell out and onto the ground, he looked down at it, And walked away, His mom came back and picked it up and out it in the trash for him.
The trash we dump in our waters is often deadly to wildlife, sometimes killing our beloved fish and the bugs they eat. Think of each body of water as a huge aquarium. The more often that āaquariumā is cleaned, the healthier it is.
