For the trailer I would use stainless steel screws and cup washers. Double the carpet ends over and use a couple of clamps to hold tight while you attach screws on the underside. Solid plastic works very well in place of carpet. When using it get 1/2" material and countersink your fasteners.

This is the best thing I have done for my trailer! A bit more expensive but well worth it! Boat slides right off at launch and slides right back up. Carpet gets wet and hold moisture and wood will eventually rot! Used treated 2x6's and wrapped with these. Stainless screws came with the package.

I would never use glue. At some point you will need to replace them.I Have replaced several boat trailers and shore stations carpets . Would not want to think about trying to get glued carpet off them , I would just buy new boards. Just be sure the staples are long enough for when you have to do the corners. I think the carpet gives the boat some padding and looks better when the boats off the trailer. But that just me.

I have been a professional carpenter for 45 years and I have yet to encounter any adhesive in which it is ok to apply to painted wood. Generally speaking adhesives must be applied to bare wood for best results. I would staple the fabric on the underside too.

Saw, I'm telling ya! Great product! Easy to install. They have a 2x6 version as well. I bought two new treated 2x6's . Grabbed a buddy and some tools and went to the lake. Dumped the boat in and did the install right at the lake. They work great! Quality product!

I had to replace one of my bunks awhile back and that's what I did also. Took it to the lake and offloaded the boat. Then went fishin after the bunk replacement was done.

Stainless is good, Monel is even better. Don't use anything else.
