What do you consider a pup, and what's a keeper? Or do you keep any of em? I've seen some of your catches. Impressive buddy.
A pup here is anything under 15 pounds lol. The only ones I keep are the bleeders. There not going to live so might as well eat em. Normally try and get some in the 2-3lb range for smoking. Bigger than that there to greasy. Unless you boil them. Wich is how my wife likes them. Her and her cousin ate about 4 lbs of filets one night dipped in garlic butter. Lol. They both got the runs. LMAO 🤣😆.

Well, I caught 8 pups today, released em all so no pictures of fish. Was a beautiful morning no wind and -5 degrees. She's making ice. Took a couple pictures for ya. Was in the firehole canyon area of the gorge.
Beautiful pictures Egg, but I'm getting cold looking at them. You fishing shallow water? Looks like 64.5ft.
No safe ice here just yet and still too much to launch a boat.

Fred, the deep water just froze this week. If it stays cold that's where I'll be. I like 75-105 feet for the big fish..
Remember that picture I put in here a couple months ago??? Sitting outside in my shorts and bare feet.lol. it was to get climatized for winter. I do that every night lol. Shorts n a t-shirt no socks. It must work, cuz I don't get cold. Your nose might start to run, but it stops as soon as it hits your upper lip. Froze.lol. and that's when you know the ice is still safe.🤣🤪😅🥴🥶,
I've never caught a big one, but have caught those 2-3 pounders and they are pretty good eatin. We call em macs down here (mackinaws) and there are a few lakes that hold em. Tahoe being one of em. Gorgeous up there, and crystal clear water.

Back in the day bout 40 years ago when I use to fish Lake Tahoe a lot, I was goin out one winter morning and stopped at the gas station for some boat gas. When I went to pay the attendant ask me if I was really goin out fishin. I said Yeah. He just shook his head. The thermometer read -5.
When I launched the boat the water on the boat trailer froze as soon as I pulled it out of the water.
I was by myself and caught several Macs. They were all PUPS.
Nowadays I don't even want to be in the same part of the country that gets -5. I freeze up too bad now.
What all kinda fish do you catch egg

Believe it or not but we’ve broken ice a few times down here. Of course it was only in the teens but we caught the hell out of the speckled trout in the deep canals in Montegut and Cocodrie. I’m partial to the thirties and forties now. Below that I’m staying in. We have sleet right now. Can’t wait to go to work tomorrow.

Congratulations Egg. I’m so proud of you for taking a few days off from work to go fishing. You need to do it more often. Life’s to short. Have you gotten that knee looked at yet??? 🐟on
