My wife puts ketchup on everything. Pisses me off. I'd tell her she was insulting the cook. My wife likes her steaks well done. So one time I burnt the hell out of it. Blackened all around it. It backfired, she said she loved it. Go figure.

Lucky you, she could a throwed it at you might a hurt.

Steak was no treat at my house growin up, my dad wouldn't eat it if it had a bit of juice left in it. He could turn a filet mignon into a hockey puck.

Anyone ever eat baloney and potato chip sandwich. My go to as a kid

No, but I survived four years of high school on peanut butter
and baloney sandwiches ! Yeah,
I know it sounds strange, but we were on a lo-o-ow budget, and it was better than just baloney
with mayo and mustard ! Kept
me from starving through my school years !

You know what we called that ring baloney in the Navy? Welcome to the attic if I tell you. I call it that to this day, I suppose my poor kids do too. I know they talk about eating SOS and c-rats. They loved the c-rats, thought they were special whenever they could get them.

There is a Bar S plant near here that turns 1,000,000 pounds of beef, pork & chicken byproducts a day into weinnies. That translates to a lot of hotdogs. My brother is an inspector for the city & visits the plant regularly. He said one could eat off the floor but he had never seen a piece of red meat being dumped into the grinder. Bar S Frank's are the ones selling for 97 cents a package at wal mart. I cut them up into 1 inch pieces & marinate them in minced garlic for a couple months & use them for catfish bait.

Bar S are the nastiest hot dogs there are. I remember one time, years ago, when I was young and broke the local grocery store had Bar S hotdogs on sale for 50 cents a pack so I bought 10 packs. I'd never heard of Bar S brand before and after I ate the first hotdog I wished I never had heard of them, much less bought 10 packs. I ate them all because , like I said, I was young and broke and wasn't wasting any food. But since then I haven't eaten, and don't ever plan on eating another Bar S hotdog.

When we were young and in the Navy we were always broke and trying to stretch every nickel, we often (too often) had beans and franks. My wife bought some of those bar-s dogs once and ruined a good can of pork and beans with em. You're right, I think they were less than 50 cents for 10. We ended up feeding them to the dog, pretty cheap dog food and he seemed to like em. I see them still at Wally World for less than a dollar sometimes. Still pretty cheap dog food.

Eggs over easy with Tabasco. Peanut butter and sweet pickles. If you come to my house and I fix you a steak and you reach for the ketchup, I am going to be very insulted, and I will never fix you another.

When I was a kid I ate ketchup on my steak but it was because my mothers idea of cooking steak was to broil it in the oven until any hint of pink (or juiciness) was gone. I never even liked steak until I was around 12 or 13 and we went out to a steak house and I ordered my steak medium rare like I saw people on TV doing. What a game changer that was. Although my mother was mad because I refused to ever eat another steak she cooked. Now as far as steak sauce goes, every once in a while I'll be in the mood for some and I'll have it on the side so I can dip a few bites, but I don't dump it on my whole steak.

I hear you. My dad was the same way. Would not touch a piece of beef if it had any life left in it at all. Steak was no treat for me. A little (a LITTLE!) A-1 can go a long way.

They are good also.

Okay ! Not to be a critic, but it's
to each his own ! Can't speak to Hebrew National, as I've never tried them ! Had Nathan's at
Coney Island - was NOT impressed ! Grew up with a
couple of local brands back
home - Schonland's and Jordan's; they were both very good ! My
dad liked them so much that whenever he left to go back to Florida, he would buy a case of them and freeze them for the
trip home ! Current favorites are Oscar Meyer's, for hot dogs and bacon ! For us, hot dog toppings included mustard, sweet relish and a dash of celery salt (with
or without finely chopped
onions) ! My youngest brother
was the 'odd duck'; he was the
one with the ketchup ! We all looked at him askance, as that was roughly equivalent to a criminal act in our family; it was unheard of, as ketchup was for burgers, fries, and occasionally onion rings ! Oh, and if I have a fresh batch of chili available, that may go on it instead, with a little shredded cheese !

That celery salt is definitely an east coast thing, and it's also pretty darned good. I'm certainly not offended by Oscar Meyer they have a really unique flavor and to me they are very good, but for a "traditional" tasting dog, I'm a big fan of Casper's. They have a natural casing, and I love that POP! when you bite into one. I get em at Costco. If you're ever in L.A. and you're at the ball park, Dodger Dogs are supposed to be right up there with the Red Hots at Wrigley Field. They're made by Farmer John, I can get those at any store here, they're ok. Don't know where you go to get those Red Hots (other than Chicago at the ball park) or who makes em, but a couple of those and a cold beer on a warm day at Wrigley, Cubs playin my Giants? Don't get much better than that.

Are A-1 or Worcestershire
okay ? You're right about the ketchup - ruining a good steak
that way is sacrilege !

Live a little, ketchup, try it I love it. LMFAO

Admittedly, ketchup has its place
and/or uses, but a good steak or
prime rib (or hot dogs) definitely should NOT be on that list ! As
for steak sauce or
Worcestershire, I have used them on steak before, but have long since been relegated to burgers, sometimes mixed with the ketchup !
