I caught a "golden" bluegill when I was just a boy (8 years old?), in the Smoke Hole Canyon of the South Branch of Potomac River in WV. It was getting dark, bats were flying, and I begged my Dad for one more cast, and lo and behold I caught it this unique creature. Like the golden rainbow trout that was developed nearby, this fish was gold all over. We put it in a bucket with some water, took it home, and placed it in an aluminum tub with fresh water. A conservation officer looked at it the next day. We then released it in a nearby farm pond where I am told it was seen for a number of years afterwards.
I recently came across the photos of me with it. I will have to digitize and share.

I was to meet my friend at a hidden little bass pond. The pond was 1/2 on his property, 1/2 on his neighbor’s, who I had never met. So, I showed up a little early. My friend wasn’t there yet. I decided to walk down to the pond. Walking in between a couple of horse pens I heard the very obvious “click click” sound of a shotgun being pumped. I turned around and , yep, you guested it, a pissed off old man with a shotgun pointed at my chest. Shaking in my shorts I explained who I was, that I was to me his neighbor Jeff to fish the pond. He lowered his weapon, we exchanged names, and shook hands. We made an agreement that I could fish his side of the pond whenever I wanted... I just had to leave two 24 ounce light beers on the front step of his trailer and hollar “it’s me”! Turns out, the pond was chalk full of big bass! Some up to 8lbs. 🏄🏼♂️🎣

I think he meant a Tern.
Yes. I caught that same bird 🦅 the following year. I guess you could say it was a re-Tern...

If you think getting a tern off a hook is tough try a pelican tha flies onto your line and gets a loop around its wing

Yeah Ivey, I know that to be true. Way back when I was a kid, growin up in Texas ,there was a group of people havin a picnic down at the lake. Don't remember which lake now to long ago. Anyway, a bunch of the kids wanted to go swimming so they all ran down to the water and one little boy jumped in first and started yellin and screamin for the others not to jump in because there was a bunch of barbed wire in the water. When he got out he was covered in snake bites from the cottonmouths . Turned out there was a nest of them there. He never made it to the hospital. We all started bein more careful where we went swimmin after that.

That would be really bad. I'm glad I don't live anywhere them snakes do. I've seen really bad stories about them.

Yeah, that's one thing I don't miss about Texas.
We were fishing for Chinook salmon in Oregon last year and I hooked a seal.
I’m guessing he weighed 250-300 lbs.
Fought it for about 20 minutes before we got close enough to release it by breaking the leader.
Sometimes they like herring as much as the salmon do!

Many years ago on Pelican Lake in Orr Minnesota a beaver got into our fish holding cage that was in the lake and killed and ate the majority of our evenings catch. The only way we knew is that he got trapped in the cage and couldn't get out. Boy! he sure was glad when we let him out. I let one of the other fishing friends open it and let him because I was "CHICKEN" because he was really pissed off.
Never heard of a beaver eating fish. Are you sure it wasn’t an otter?
Beavers do not eat fish – they are completely vegetarian, preferring a diet of aquatic plants, grasses, herbs and shrubs in summer months with more trees and woody shrubs being taken in the winter.
Years ago my son in law and I were fishing a cove on a lake in NM. for crappie. He caught a rattlesnake that was swimming across. Cut the line just as soon as he saw what it was. It was foul hooked and very pissed off. We kinda went and found a different place to fish.
While fishing a bass club tournament, a copperhead snake was swimming a couple feet from the shore, my partner, who was fishing with a topwater bait said, I'm going to catch that snake and DID!! Less than an hour later, he did the same thing!!! And no we didn't win the tournament, that day!!

Remembered another unusual catch, Fishing Wheeler lake one night and felt some weight on my line so thinking I had a fish I set the hook. Well my line took off to the left of me then turned and back to the right then started to dive deep. I yelled for my partner to get the net I've got a good one on. The fight went on for what seemed like a couple minutes with this supposed fish going all over diving and running back and forth, I was sure I had a dandy fish on. Well I got it right up to the boat with my partner standing at the ready with the net. Just as I thought I had this beast beat my partner gives out a hoot and a laugh and netted a 1/2 inch by 6" board about 2 feet long. I had hooked it on one corner and this really put some play in the thing and it really felt like a nice one, my partner ask I got it netted but how you gonna cook it?
