It has been years since I have fished at lay lake out of columbiana Al.
I have recently retired and now finaly having the opportunity to do some I have loved all my life.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what colors of lures that are working at this time of year.
Thanks
Can not help you but they will be along soon.
Welcome
I was catching good bass on Mitchell a month back but having to do boat & trailer repair has put me bhind and off. I was catching 2 to 4 lb bass on white or white/chartruse 1/2 oz spinner baits with gold and silver blades. No trailer. Also 1/2 oz white blade baits.
Leaving in the morning going to Lay Lake and Mitchell. Maybe I'll have some info for you when I get back. Because of a bad shoulder I mostly worm fish but I'll see if I can find out if they are on some other bait.
Hope you wear them out and have a good report. Good luck.
Thanks, I'll try for sure!
Hope y'all had more luck than we did on Lay Lake. Got there Tues. afternoon with a 20+ wind blowing in a cold front. Fished Wed. and a couple of hours Thurs. morning. Ended up getting 13 keeper in the boat. Should have been 14. Tried to swing a 5 lb. largemouth in the boat and my line broke just as it was coming over the side. Shows how stupid I am. Anyway it was a bad couple of days for Lay and Mitchell. But still better than sitting at the house.
Don't sound like you did that bad in this crazy weather. What did you catch them on lure wise?
Maybe when the weather settles down we can meet and go together and fish Mitchell. I know they are connected but more familiar with Mitchell than Lay. Friend and I put in at Childersburg before and worn them out. over 20 lb that morning and went back that afternoon when they were pulling water and got close to 30 lb. Just one of those great days.
Bill I threw crankbaits, chatterbaits, top water baits and trick worms. The only thing I caught anything on was the worms. Green pumpkin Gr. and junebug. They were better size fish than normal just a lot less of them than normal. I'm probably done with them till around March. I'll start trying Seminole here closer by till then.
THANK you so much. We plan on going next week. They are going in to their fall pattern finally. Water temp has been in the mid 80's. Where were you catching them? On the main lake, drop offs or creeks? Again thanks for all of the info. I will be glad to give you info when we get back just so you can have the info. If and when you come back I will be glad to share info or if possible take to where we go. Having a spinal injection Nov. 1 next Friday. Having some major back pain. I'll try to find out info on Seminole from some friends down there.
Bill we caught a few in both the creeks and main lake. The mouth of Bird Creek was good to us The creek across from the landing where the power lines run (don't know it's name) was good. The rest where caught in the river. Not knowing their names I can help much. Bill I looked for food in their stomach but found nothing. Still no help. Anyway good luck and maybe the weather will be nicer than it was for us.
Thanks Boat any and all info goes a long way especially with the weather we have had. Going from almost a month or more of upper 90's and multiple days of 100 degree days to 70's in a matter of 2-3 days and now massive rain. I can't blame the fish for being confused. Hope you wear them out on Seminole.
If you can hit a Sports Academy they have a clearance area. Got 2 nice buzz baits $1.25, fishing gloves 50 cents. several different brands of baits.
