I have had it happen more than once. And I have done it more than once.
If I miss a fish I often tell my partner to throw over there where I missed it and hope they get it.

It's different if you tell them.
I told some of the fellows about a buttwad I fished tournaments with.

In his boat he'd hug the bank so nobody could hit a spot before him.
Approaching a dock he'd do the same thing. Hit back middle n front n block guy in the back.
He'd do the same in a good eddy.
Stay back far enough back make super long cast n he'd let boat drift over you line. He's why 9 outta 12 quit

In someone else's boat he'd zip one right passed your head.

100% Steve. Nothing wrong with it as it's an excellent technique to get a missed fish in the boat!

Yep, sometimes a different lure, approach or angle is all it takes for a fish to commit. BAM, in the boat !

Now that's TOTALLY different Grizz. That's HOGGIN all the good fishin spots.
One of my fishin partners would do that a little if I let him in front of my boat. He would cast to every good spot first and not leave me any fresh spots to cast to first.
When I'm in the front of the boat, I make it a point to leave some good spots that should hold fish for the guy in the back of the boat.
Like castin to every OTHER good spot and leave half of the good ones to my partner.

If I’m fishing with my wife if she’s fishing the back I’ll fish the front or a side on the boat that is, there are two sides a front and a back, if she fishes one side I’ll fish the other, or if we’re both fishing the same side there are still two halves of the same side. Once I had a bluegill under a bobber, she had the same, we were both fishing the same side of the boat, the bass swirled on mine and then bit but didn’t get hooked, it then went after hers and she caught it.
I was happy for her

Right now it looks like I might be able to make that.
If I can't, I'll let you know by Sunday.

Me and my son do that , usually when top water fishing . If I swing and miss a bass on a plopper or other topwater bait , Andy throws a weightless senko in the same area. Many times will get bit.I’ve done the same to him. Or sometimes if I miss, I will throw a senko myself. The idea is to catch the fish, right ? I think I can honestly say this technique is successful over 50% of the time.

When I'm fishing with my 7 year old Grandson and I miss a fish then he catches one I'll make a big fuss.
" Aw man that's not fair! You just caught Grandpa's fish "!
He'll get the biggest grin on his face 😄

I recall a story of that happening to a guy and he got tired of it. So the next time out fishing he exclaimed "wow just missed a big bass" and his buddy made a cast in that direction. Little did he know that the "missed fish" was a large alligator and pretended it to be a missed fish. Guess the battle was epic!
