Anyone else's fishing partner tries to steal their fish after you miss a hookset?
I can't be the only one... as soon as I make a noise like I miss a fish....Grumpy Ol Vet's lure makes a bee-line for the spot I just missed..and he often catches it!
Anyone else have a partner like this?

I will admit I cast a rubber frog near a spot in the weeds where a buddy was fishing and had just lost a big bass. A bass (which did not admit to being the same fish, however I did not ask) came up to eat my frog. It was in a bass fishing contest. The fish jumped, then dove back into the lily pads and got tangled up. My buddy then laid on the deck to sort out the mess and landed the fish. It was bass of the day and won me $28. I should probably have split the prize with him…but I didn’t…or, haven’t yet 😜
Technically it isn't your fish until it's on the hook, it's just a fish you happened to wake up. I guess you just have to have your own rules about this stuff.

It happens a lot if you fish in someone else's boat. That's the consolation prize for the back seater, you get the 2nd shot at missed fish. I caught a few like that, fishing with EpaAl, at Bald Eagle.
If I miss one I welcome them to throw in there.
Ist fun catching and watching someone else catch a fish.

I have had it happen more than once. And I have done it more than once.
If I miss a fish I often tell my partner to throw over there where I missed it and hope they get it.
Nope, cause I don't fish with people like that. If I did, it would only be once.

Well don’t plan on fishing with me.
I enjoy the fishing part and want everyone else to enjoy it as well
Sorry you missed the chance!!!!
Maybe I,m weird or to kind but 99% time I'm driving I teach the kids and Grand kids, captain's responsibility
to make sure everybody is enjoying the adventure. That being said we muskie fish or walleye fish, somebody
sees or has a bit well fishing (muskie) my rule you get one cast for the muskie then it's game on. Walleye is different for
me when lindy rigging I get a bite I let lots of line out tell someone I'm going to check there line hand them my
pole bingo they just caught a fish. I'm a good captain, I live on Leech lake (112,000 acres) in northern mn. I'm
Blessed by our Lord and Savior to live where I live, Blessed Easter to one and all

What it breaks down to is fishing etiquette and how well your fishing partner would react to that. I have stolen a good friends fish when he missed it before, but I would never do that to a first time partner. Some guys would get very pissed off about this and some would not care.

100% Steve. Nothing wrong with it as it's an excellent technique to get a missed fish in the boat!
