43Β° when I got to the lake. You can only fish the East shore, and unfortunately it's in the shade of the mountains till around 11am. It definitely felt colder especially with the North wind blowing down the lake. Missed 2 decent bites due to the wind bowing the line, one on a Dinger and one on a Paca Craw on a Shaky head. Took a break to wait for the sun to hit the shoreline. Lost a good fish on a June Bug Dinger, then switched to a Green Pumpkin. Finally set the hook in a decent fish. 2lb 6oz. After that the wind shifted again, from the west, and was blowing straight in my face so I called it. I never realized that they lowered the lake this much in the winter. The bank where the treeline starts is the normal high waterline.

One better than none. My that water is low, hope the winter snows fill it back up. Good pics Fred.

That's the compensating reservoir for the much bigger Barkhamsted reservoir. It feeds the Farmington River. They could flood the whole valley if they wanted to.

Dams like that are scary. Something goes wrong it gets ugly real guick. Like Johnstown Pa. May 31 1889 2,209 killed thousands more injured. 1936 24 killed 1977 85 dead. Johnstown is a dangerous place 1πŸ‘πŸ‘

Thanks Randy. I've only seen the 100 bags on Amazon, but some of the Tackle places might have them. The 30 bags are available at a lot of places, BPS, Tackle Warehouse, Dicks, etc. $26 is normal for 100, but $21 is outstanding !
I'll be stocking up for sure.

I was looking around today and saw the 100s for 25 bucks

I rember my Dad talking about a flood like that near Almond, NY. Heard about Johnstown, but didn't know it happened three times. All the lakes I've been fishing do the same thing. Some say it's to get ready for spring rains, some to prevent damage to the dams. BTW, pretty looking bass.

The Saville Dam was built in the '40s and opened in '48. Barkhamsted reservoir provides water for 16 towns in the Hartford area.

Thanks Jer. If it wasn't blowing, I would have tried some other stuff and grabbed a couple other rods.

May have been more Jim I only read about the three. 1889 dam collapse released 3.843 billion gals of water in 65mins. The wall of water 35/40' hit Johnstown at 40mph. The dam was 918' long 72' high. A real tragedy πŸ‘

Myrna said she couldn’t find any date when the sale ends, so if you want some at that price, you might want to order them quick. Mine is supposed to be delivered Tuesday. We have β€œPrime” - free delivery! (no minimum)
