It will be my pleasure. Do u have a boat?

Yes sir, I do. Question about those rod holders you are using. My boat doesn't have a rail on the back. Would those holders mount on the sides and adjust the rod holding position accordingly? Question #2... with the cold temps forecasted for the next week, water temps will fall into the 40's. Does it ever get to cold to fish for Stripers? I realize they still have to eat but does it slow down enough to affect the fishing?

A mudsucker is a small slender fish anywhere from 3 to 6 inches long found mostly in brackish water, they resemble a bullhead without the horns. They generally feed along the bottom of the water system finding food by sucking in mud to find small crustaceans I.E the name mudsucker. Stripers love them!

Thanks

Those rod holders are great for bait fishing. They allow the rod to move freely up and down and side to side and detect the slightest bite from the fish. They also make it real easy to remove the rod to set the hook while not spooking the fish. We set rod in the holder on free spool with the clicker on allowing the fish to pick up the bait and run with it before setting the hook. I don’t remember who the manufacturer is but we bought them years ago at Rio Vista bait and tackle. They still have them, saw them there the other day. They are best holders we have ever used for stripers. As far as mounting them goes you need to place them in a position where the rod can move freely up and down and side to side. I don’t recommend mounting them on the side gunnel. We made our own pedestals to mount them. As far as colder temps goes, yes it can get tougher finding the fish to bite, but like u said, they still need to eat. That’s why I think bait fishing is ones best option in winter. Hope this info helps. What type of boat do u have?

Good to hear about you beating cancer
I myself had a liver transplant in 2018 UCSF in San Francisco. So far so good. Since this pandemic hit us I’ve been trying to stay away from crowds cause my immune system is weak I asked UCSF how it was going with transplant patients with this pandemic and they said not good So haven’t been fishing much. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good places to fish from the banks for striper and sturgeon. I’ve caught some stripers before with a buddy of mine but he moved to Hawaii and he had the boat. So I was wondering if anyone knew of good bank to fish from so I can take my two boys out and catch. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. 👍🏼

Good news about your successful transplant and thanks for the kind words. There is a nice fishing pier at China Camp on the Marin side of San Pablo bay that can be a great spot for stripers and sturgeon. There is also a public pier in Pittsburgh on the delta The Rio Vista area has decent shore access. Hope this helps. Good luck and good health to you!

Hey SAw1 After pulling the boat out on Wednesday we talked to the biologists from U.C Davis at the ramp who were doing a sturgeon survey, they told me that river area was loaded with healthy and Abundant sturgeon. Might try for them on our next trip. Use a little larger rod and reel setup. Might switch over to live grass shrimp for bait (a lot cheaper than live mudsuckers) still can catch stripers with the shrimp. Just thinking! p.s .. in 4 days of fishing with the mudsuckers we spent over a hundred bucks on bait!!

Nice boat. It looks like you can make the same pedestals as we did and mount them on your rear platform about a foot in from your gunnrails . If u have any questions as far as making the Pedestals and mounting them, feel free to ask.

I suppose. If you wanted to catch a Sturgeon. I would just as soon catch Stripers.
But if we hooked a Sturgeon I reckon it would be a fun fight.
